I agree with those caps, but also want to check on what we can do to support Nora, Steph, and I'm sure others.

In my own Getting Things Done list: the appliance people arrived today and installed our fancy new washer and dryer! (One of my friends who understands appliance installation was on hand to answer any questions the installation guys would have had.) Yesterday, friends with construction skills came over and built a stopgap fix for our borderline unsafe front stairs, which we're having be completely replaced next month! I am doing laundry, have taken out trash, yard waste, and recycling, and hired the teenage boy to come over and pack more yard waste into bags from the hardware store! Tonight (or tomorrow) I clean the bathroom!
Plus, y'know, dayjob stuff.
That is a very impressive day, Jilli!
So happy your father was located safely, -t.
A cooking question: What is the best bread for grilled cheese? Should it be fresh or a little dry? I'm looking for a basic grilled cheese sandwich from my youth, nothing exotic at this point.
The best luck I've had at home is with Bunny brand white bread.
Somehow my reading comprehension is totally lacking, or I accidentally skipped a bunch of posts. I am so relieved that -t's dad is ok.
Connie, I like sourdough that's a few days old for grilled cheese. Not really stale yet, per se, but it's got a little more stiffness to it than fresh.
That is not a question I have ever thought about. I would be willing to attempt grilled cheese with whatever bread is available.
Thick white homemade bread makes an excellent grilled cheese sandwich, but I am partial to the super nutty seedy whole grain bread for the flavor factor. Bottom line, I am not pushing away any grilled cheese sandwich, or toasted cheese as my family said in my youth. Tomato soup on the side please.
