Goodbye and Good Riddance 2013: That Was the Year That Was

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Thanksgivukkahmas, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering. Out you go, 2013!

Karma is a cat, sleeping in my lap cuz it loves me. ~TS

I really miss bananas. They were my favorite fruit and I ate one or two a day for years, until one day I just became banana-intolerant. Now they hit me like food-poisoning, and the effect lasts the whole day.

Thrive to spite them

I'm sorry the dentist sprung you with such bad news, there definitely should have been a warning about that to give you time to prepare.

Compassionately intolerant

Sounds like time to convince your dentist to write you a "I medically need a Vitamix" prescription!

They've got motors you could water ski behind!

I hope you get one, Polgara, so that I can envy from afar.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Geez, Polgara. Sorry your dentist doesn't realize the emotional importance of being able to chew food, sorry you can't chew for six months, and really sorry about the bananas!

Seriously, though - isn't there some concern about your jaw muscles losing tone or something if you don't use them for that long?

Whoa. There is *now*.

And thanks, everyone, really, for all the support and kind words. I'm just going with it right now, but I suspect it won't be long before I'm ready to chew my own arm off. I'm trying not to think too far ahead to that inevitable misery.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You can talk and stuff, right? Just not bite down all the way? Your jaw should be OK. And obviously I am a medical doctor -- I'm still watching Grey's Anatomy!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I bet there are isometric jaw exercises or some such.

Yes, this.

Oo, I'll ask my PT next week. Presumably he'll know more than just knees.

Sorry! I'm sure it's fine. Your dentist would know, right? If she knew you couldn't chew, she'd know if there was a problem with that.

Because books.

Doesn't your jaw get wired shut for a few months if you break it?

Also, if you're worried, you can always exercise your jaw! Just, not with food in it.
