I don't really have a security blanket... unless you count Mr. Pointy.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Random announcement: You know how there are some books you loved and cherished as a kid and read over and over until you knew not only the rhythms of the language but the very shapes of the letters on each page, and you go back to them as an adult and... there's still a there there, but it is badly diminished?

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH is NOT one of those books. I picked it up on a whim at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago, picked it up this morning on another whim, and now cannot put it down. It just... it's making me so deeply happy just now.

brillig

I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 tonight, as my massive summer overtime present to me. It's charging up and I'm quite looking forward to playing with it. It's got a faux-Office program that will read text files, so I can put all my fics on it, and I can download an ereader to read epubs, so all my books can go on it. Combining my Nook and my Palm into one. I'm going to miss my Palm.

Did you read the other books in that series?

Yes, I really wanted to have to deal with the insurance claim/HSA reimbursement from the ER visit for the scratched eyeball/pinkeye this morning. It's about as ridiculous as I expected it to be. Sigh. Goddamned small towns in the middle of nowhere.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Hey ita, if you want, there's another angle to be upset about that NBC billboard: [link]

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Well, this is depressing. Buzzfeed has a list of the lowest-paying jobs that require a bachelors degree. I'm earning comparable to the ones listed, and I have a doctorate.

Because books.

FRIDAY. I'm so relieved. This has been a long week.

Uh oh, I was coaxing the siamese cat/kitten into my building's stairwell out of the rain, and now that he's frightened he's fled all my attempts to get him outside and instead disappeared somewhere into my apartment. Of course this happens on a day when I have a vital status meeting with my superiors at 10, so no taking time off to deal with him. My home will be totally destroyed if I leave him in it unattended until afternoon, won't it?

Here's hoping snapdragons aren't poisonous to cats, because there's no room to put that away where he can't get to it.

He'll probably be hiding most of the time. I bet he won't go wild. Just leave some water out.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Huh. I make in that range and I thought I was doing pretty well. It's very possible that my job doesn't actually require a degree, though.
