I'm reminded by the lead singer of Smash Mouth who claimed he didn't listen to other pop music and just "created' the songs. But if you listen to their songs, they are reminiscent of 1960s & 1970s music.
Yeah, that's a ridiculous claim. The singer might be an actual ignoramus but the keyboard player who sampled the Moog synthesizer from an early 70s track for "Walking On The Sun" certainly listened to earlier music. Plus they fucking covered the Monkees "I'm a Believer" and girl group staple "Can't Seem To Make You Mine." Not to mention being a ska influenced band originally.
right? I couldn't believe it.
I remember feeling like a vulture, packing a black jumper to take on my emergency trip home when my dad was in the hospital for organ failure. It was pretty clear that if he survived it was going to be a miracle, but even so. He did die later that week and I was glad I didn't have to worry about shopping in the middle of preparing for the funeral.
That sinkhole vid was incredible!
I wish more stories were highlighting the fact that it was caused by drilling and most of the town has had to evacuate.
I just violated my own rule by chiding someone for running yet another graphic criticizing Obama for standing under an umbrella held by a Marine. When it's so very evident that it's another case of It's OK If You're A Republican when it's not hard to find pictures of previous Presidents doing the same thing.
A friend of mine says, 'You can hit harder if you tell the truth.' If you're going to criticize, at least criticize on factual grounds, not appearance.
What kind of drilling, brenda? Is that why that buoy line was there?
Also, Google's animation today is short and beautiful.
Juliebird -- they were doing something with an insufficiently documented (those pesky regulations!) salt dome, which turned out to be Very Unstable. So, basically, a very Big Cave collapsed underneath the swamp. Not only is it sucking down whole sections of land, it's belching up crude oil and explosive gases.
Jesus Christ. I thought it was an amazing natural phenomenon. Should've known better.
Which is not to say it's not an awesome (old sense) vid.
