Hil, do you have a potato or other veggie/fruit with a similar texture?

If so: make sure the light is turned off, obviously. Cut the potato/whatever in half. Stick the cut part of the potato (not the peel side, I mean) firmly against the metal base. You should be able to use the tater for leverage to unscrew it.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

Turn it off and use a potato to get the broken end out.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Hmm. I just got back from vacation, so no potatoes here. And whatever I do will have to wait until morning, because if I turn off the fixture, then there's not enough light to see what I'm doing.

Also, shouldn't light bulbs be made better than that? It took almost no pressure at all for the bulb part to come off.

Well, you *can* leave the light on, it's just safer to turn it off.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Love the potato x-post.

curly parsley is decor not flavor

Strongly disagree. Curly parsley tastes better to me. YPMV

I picked up my butcher CSA package yesterday, so I think tonight will be whatever steak I got, with fennel and leeks because I know I have those lying around.

hip deep in pie

I would turn off the light and power if you can, and use pliers to grab the metal rim of the bulb and unscrew from there.
