Potato Tool cross-post!
Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I mean, it pains me GREATLY to waste an almighty potato for something other than good eatin', but it is an effective way to get that broken base out of a light fixture.
While I had the ladder out anyway, I unscrewed all the dead bulbs from my other light fixtures. Six new bulbs to buy. I'll have light!
I replaced 5 bulbs after Christmas and what a difference, the old bulbs gave off a yellow light and the new ones are white light (which I greatly prefer). They were all in the kitchen and living room the kitchen opens into, so it was dramatic - no idea how long some of those had been burned out.
Wow that sounds so much safer than the "pry it out with needlenose pliers" method I used last week. (They had rubberized handles, so I did not get electrocuted. For the record.)
I love a natural spectrum bulb. It's about time for all the CFL's we put in when we bought the house to need replacing, I should think about what I want now. LEDs?
LEDs are where it's at. I have weird bulbs in most of my house (expensive-ass 40 floods which are less common than 30 floods) and even the CFLs burned out more than I liked. But Costco had them as LEDs and they've been awesome. And I like the light better than the CFLs too.
The only issue is I replaced a sconce light in my bedroom with regular-bulb type LEDs and they make a weird buzzing/humming noise (that I haven't noticed from other ones) and I can't decide if it's just because it's closer, or if it means they're one day going to explode and kill me or something.
I'm also considering some of those programmable bulbs. Not everywhere, but maybe the bedroom and a couple other places? Maybe.
Programmable bulbs? I know, I could google...
Ooh, it's going to be hot out tomorrow (50s), so maybe I'll try to change the bulb in my outside fixture again. There are these screws that are hard to take off, and my hands got too cold last time...
