I made a chess pie, and have a second crust chilling in the fridge. Maybe I'll make a pie for my sister's birthday or something.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

What's chess pie? Or I could google.

My neighbor is setting up Halloween decor so I keep hearing mechanical creepy voices. I feel like I am in a bad horror movie. There are blow up pumpkins and a Grim Reaper thing. I think it's the Reaper that keeps talking. I thought I was prepared with nearly 20 pounds of candy. I am clearly not as prepared as I could be.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Ooh, the pie shop near me should have their cranberry chess pie back soon. Must go check this weekend.

Brenda, what distinguishes a cranberry chess pie? Is it studded with cranberries, or do they make it with cranberry sauce, or what?

Cass, a chess pie is basically a custard pie with cornmeal in it. The recipe I use also calls for lemon, so you get a simple pie with a real nice texture and some lemony tang. I think the name "chess" comes from "jess" pie, as in a pie made just with stuff you'd find in your cabinet.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Thanks to you guys and the gift certificate you sent me, I just went into the fancy grocery for bread and also grabbed salt and vinegar (!) popcorn (!!) without even looking at the (ridiculous) price. So thanks! I would never have gotten it for myself, which I think is a hallmark of good gift-giving.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Go team onerous task! So I called a credit card company to see about setting up a payment schedule for an overdue amount, and instead I got offered a settlement for half of what I owed. Which is probably mostly interest at this point, anyway.

My onerous task turned out to be not nearly as onerous as I thought it would be.

That sounds really delicious.

Oh, I thought chess pie was multi-color pie that when you cut it it looked like a checkerboard.
