'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Go team onerous task! So I called a credit card company to see about setting up a payment schedule for an overdue amount, and instead I got offered a settlement for half of what I owed. Which is probably mostly interest at this point, anyway.

My onerous task turned out to be not nearly as onerous as I thought it would be.

Because books.

erika, you asked first, and I said to send me your address! I'm sorry, le nubian -- see above. Unless erika really changed her mind.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Cass, a chess pie is basically a custard pie with cornmeal in it. The recipe I use also calls for lemon, so you get a simple pie with a real nice texture and some lemony tang.

That sounds really delicious.

Oh, I thought chess pie was multi-color pie that when you cut it it looked like a checkerboard.

The original version has apple cider vinegar to cut the custard a little. My pie shop usually has the lemon, the vinegar, and one or two varieties they come up with.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

That's great, Theo! It always pays to call.

OH! Speaking of which! My mother got a crazy bill for a doctor's appointment, and she was going to be mad at the doctor's office! I was like, NO. YOU ARE GOING TO CALL THE INSURANCE COMPANY!!! (I don't know if she did, or what happened.) Fucking insurance companies.

Chess (with vinegar) is my favorite pie. The source of the name is disputed, but most food historians believe it's derived from "lemon cheese," an old English name for lemon curd. It's popularity in the South probably comes from the fact that it keeps at room temperature and doesn't require hard-to-get ingredients.

I'm sorry, I did not know you asked first. Please go ahead. No problem.

I am going to try not to engage further on this subject on Facebook, but I give you my word that moving the fuel out of Fukushima Daiichi will not bring about the end of the world.
