"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

To bring the conversations together, my sister's wedding was in Ohio in January, and the bridesmaid dresses were black velvet, with the hemline higher in the front. And puffed sleeves, because it was that era. But they were warm!

WHOHOO, I did it! I have relit the pilot. I am a domestic goddess!

Okay, so I probably was doing it correctly the whole time, it's just that the internet told me I was looking at the wrong spot to see if it was lit or not. So I kept giving up. But it is lit! Burners are burning. Water is heating.

And I'm only an hour late on my day's plan, so I shall be fine. In fact, it's probably better, because the slider bun dough was rising all this time, so I can now bake the slider buns before I leave and remake the bed, so when I head out the door the house will be, in fact, complete.

I didn't get the last of the studio or office clean-up done, but such is life. If I get back and the boys haven't gotten here yet I'll take care of it then.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Okay, I need design help. I have to do these T-shirts today, and my head hurts and I'm freaking out about work, and I couldn't be less inspired if I were in quicksand.

I have a number of different photographs that I need to add text to similarly, so that there's some design unity to the shirts. And then I need to shrink and collage all those photos for my sister's shirt, because I'm a goddamned idiot.

I know, because I'm on tumblr, that just typing onto a photograph is not good enough. That shit looks low rent as hell when I do it. I need design tips.

What I think I know:

  • either bold or a thick font is good
  • outline or drop shadow will help clarity
  • maybe put the text in a box so I don't have to work out what colour is legible on 7 photos?

How can I make this not suck?

I'm so fucking overwhelmed right now I'm on the brink of tears, honestly.

At least I got the emails I needed for work God, that was stupid...

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

OOH! That soda fountain dress comes in a lot of different colors [link]

I love the ice and the grape.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

All of that sounds right, ita !. All 7 photos, with similar text, are going on one shirt? Or each photo with similar text will be on a different shirt?

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Could you greyscale the photos so you didn't have to worry about color consistency?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

There's going to be one shirt with all 7--that one doesn't have to be legible or anything--it's mostly just gesture, and all of us will be wearing a shirt with just a picture of us and her, and the quote.

I just realised that the text doesn't need to be on the picture, does it? That might solve that issue....

I'm still largely overwhelmed, and irritated that at least one person has dropped off the planet without word one even "go on without me!" It's not like we're doing life saving surgery, but any attempt to not act like cats I need to herd is always appreciated.

I've been randomly googling design ideas, and hopefully...ah, let's just plunge in. Why has 1, and only 1 person sent a portrait orientation picture? Poopy.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

You are right, text might be easier off. You could do, like, matting for a picture, where there's a thick border around all the images, and the text could cross that, and the border could be a consisten shape and let the orientation fluctuate inside that.
