Mixed emotions make us human. You can be happy for them and have it be a little sad for you at the same time, Maria.
Yes, this. Many hugs for you.

Hugs, Maria. Mixed emotions are totally natural, and the mix will shift over time.

Thanks, all. I'm getting to a really good place, but there are still things that sting. I have a feeling this particular one will do so for a while.
I never expected to not be a mom, let alone a widow at 39.
((Maria))
It is such a painful process. I'm so sorry.
Maria, in my 59 years absolutely nothing has ever turned out the way I expected. I think I might be at a place where I comfortably just go with the flow. I know for sure that I no longer have expectations.
We have no control over anything except our own thoughts and actions and I am so very impressed and proud of the positive strides you have made in those.
What Laura said so well, Maria. (Except for the 59 part. Sorry, Laura.)
Also echoing Laura. I'm always surprised by my life.
And my power is out after the little snowstorm. Boo.
We have no control over anything except our own thoughts and actions and I am so very impressed and proud of the positive strides you have made in those.
Some people get fossilized in their life as soon as it deviates from their expectations, and they seem to take a grim satisfaction in pointing to The Moment After Which Their Life Would Never Have Any Goodness Ever Again. Not just old coots, either -- it happens to people in their 30s all the time.
But Maria, even though your life is emphatically not what you expected, you aren't just stubbornly pointing backwards and saying "Well, I guess NOW the rest of my life will suck." You're saying, "Okay, let's see what's next." And the choice to do that is tremendous.
