Maria, in my 59 years absolutely nothing has ever turned out the way I expected. I think I might be at a place where I comfortably just go with the flow. I know for sure that I no longer have expectations.
We have no control over anything except our own thoughts and actions and I am so very impressed and proud of the positive strides you have made in those.
What Laura said so well, Maria. (Except for the 59 part. Sorry, Laura.)
Also echoing Laura. I'm always surprised by my life.
And my power is out after the little snowstorm. Boo.

Some people get fossilized in their life as soon as it deviates from their expectations, and they seem to take a grim satisfaction in pointing to The Moment After Which Their Life Would Never Have Any Goodness Ever Again. Not just old coots, either -- it happens to people in their 30s all the time.
But Maria, even though your life is emphatically not what you expected, you aren't just stubbornly pointing backwards and saying "Well, I guess NOW the rest of my life will suck." You're saying, "Okay, let's see what's next." And the choice to do that is tremendous.
Yes yes! What Steph and Laura said. You are an amazing woman, Maria.
I've got tears in my eyes. So very glad that I have a legion of Bitches surrounding me.

This, this, a thousand times this.
Had to take my Mom to the Emergency room (a capillary burst in her mouth where she had a tooth extracted and it took the emergency room to stop the bleeding). I have to take her to a follow up appointment and then make a lecture. I got no sleep last night but could probably fit a half hour nap in. Question: grab the half hour nap or in your experience is a half hour nap while sleep deprived worse than nothing in bring on the gronk?
My experience is that the half hour is better spent taking a shower and knocking back coffee.
