Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
So I'm looking at cataract surgery sometime in the next few months, depending on when we can get the several hundred dollars together to pay the upfront doctors bills and if we want to get the couple of thousand dollars together to get the doctor-recommended replacement lens as opposed to the insurance-covered basic lens. The doctor recomended lens would probably negate the need for glasses altogether, but I'm actually OK with wearing glasses for the rest of my life. I've already worn them for 40 years, it's not like I'm not used to them.
This wouldn't be so bad except we also need to replace my no-longer-goes-in-reverse car. We talked to the bank about credit and should hear back from them some time today. We'll either be laughed at or get a few thousand dollars to work with.
Fortunately, I can see to work and drive quite well, just with noticeably haziness in the right eye. So I've got several months to work with on the medical side. We really need to get a second car in this family. And I'm going to need the time to get my head around the idea of eye surgery. Shudder.

So, I pinged this singles website: [link] Which is a matchmaker site that arranges 3 men and 3 women to have dinner, in hopes of finding romance type of thing. My thinking is, better than speed dating, which requires my last impression with the lady of me trying to get up from the table. And then answering the same 20 questions 20 times for the night. So, thought the dinner idea would be better. They called this morning during my commute to work. Nice conversation. No talk of how much at all, which worried me. So, at the end of the call, I asked, "hey, I understand we all get our own check at the dinner, but I'm guessing y'all need to get paid too. How much for the dinner for six service?". The gal on the phone didn't have prices. That would depend on which services I wanted to take advantage of, but it's only about $1,000... WHAT?!? $1grand to set up a dinner?? "Again, I don't have prices, and it would depend on if you were wanting the relationship advice, or the 1-on-1 matchmaking. It's a free consult, you can discuss price with Kim at your appointment". I mean, I'm lonely, but I'm not sure I'm $1,000 lonely. Seems awfully expensive. But no clue. I certainly had no luck with Match or OKCupid.
If dinner with people you don't know costs $1000, I'd expect someone to be accidentally dropping a fork and disappearing under the table.

I recommend the Reuben.
Connie, JZ's dad just had cataract surgery and it's improved his vision so much. It's like going from a b/w TV with rabbit ears to Blu-Ray.
Connie, my maternal grandparents both had cataract surgery in the 1970s, and it worked out very well for both of them. I'm sure the procedure has only improved in the past 30+ years. Good luck with the car stuff.
o_a, that seems a bit pricey, to me. I don't think I'd pay $1,000 for a matchmaking dinner unless the organizers promised the unmarried cast of the Avengers would be attending.

Ha! I was thinking "Am I Elliot Spitzer or something? Just what kind of matchmaking service is this". Didn't say it out loud.
Of course, while driving, I didn't have my calendar open. And managed to schedule the meeting during the dept office party. D'oh! Sent an email asking if I could reschedule. Hey, I told her I was driving at the time. Perfectly valid, right?
I'm hoping she didn't know prices, and was spouting off a "it could cost up to if you want the full package" type of thing. We shall see. But I'm not holding my breathe. That's a lot of work on the condo.
Omnis that sounds very pricey to me.
My prescription wasn't ready yet so I was forced to go to Trader Joes. I now have peppermint joe joes and Brie.
Especially if they're getting $1000 from each of those six people! Though I know there are some that make men pay, but not women. Ever watched that Matchmaker show? It's awful, and her cattle calls for women really make me wonder WTF they are thinking.
Connie, that is basically the surgery I'm planning in January--they aren't taking off cataracts, but are putting in the lens so I don't need glasses anymore. It's hella expensive, but I figure in the long run it should save me money (and be awesome)
