Spike's Bitches 47: Someone Dangerous Could Get In

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

So, I pinged this singles website: [link] Which is a matchmaker site that arranges 3 men and 3 women to have dinner, in hopes of finding romance type of thing. My thinking is, better than speed dating, which requires my last impression with the lady of me trying to get up from the table. And then answering the same 20 questions 20 times for the night. So, thought the dinner idea would be better. They called this morning during my commute to work. Nice conversation. No talk of how much at all, which worried me. So, at the end of the call, I asked, "hey, I understand we all get our own check at the dinner, but I'm guessing y'all need to get paid too. How much for the dinner for six service?". The gal on the phone didn't have prices. That would depend on which services I wanted to take advantage of, but it's only about $1,000... WHAT?!? $1grand to set up a dinner?? "Again, I don't have prices, and it would depend on if you were wanting the relationship advice, or the 1-on-1 matchmaking. It's a free consult, you can discuss price with Kim at your appointment". I mean, I'm lonely, but I'm not sure I'm $1,000 lonely. Seems awfully expensive. But no clue. I certainly had no luck with Match or OKCupid.

If dinner with people you don't know costs $1000, I'd expect someone to be accidentally dropping a fork and disappearing under the table.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I am freaking starving and you guys ARE NOT HELPING!

I recommend the Reuben.

Connie, JZ's dad just had cataract surgery and it's improved his vision so much. It's like going from a b/w TV with rabbit ears to Blu-Ray.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Connie, my maternal grandparents both had cataract surgery in the 1970s, and it worked out very well for both of them. I'm sure the procedure has only improved in the past 30+ years. Good luck with the car stuff.

o_a, that seems a bit pricey, to me. I don't think I'd pay $1,000 for a matchmaking dinner unless the organizers promised the unmarried cast of the Avengers would be attending.

Ha! I was thinking "Am I Elliot Spitzer or something? Just what kind of matchmaking service is this". Didn't say it out loud.

Of course, while driving, I didn't have my calendar open. And managed to schedule the meeting during the dept office party. D'oh! Sent an email asking if I could reschedule. Hey, I told her I was driving at the time. Perfectly valid, right?

I'm hoping she didn't know prices, and was spouting off a "it could cost up to if you want the full package" type of thing. We shall see. But I'm not holding my breathe. That's a lot of work on the condo.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Omnis that sounds very pricey to me.

My prescription wasn't ready yet so I was forced to go to Trader Joes. I now have peppermint joe joes and Brie.

Especially if they're getting $1000 from each of those six people! Though I know there are some that make men pay, but not women. Ever watched that Matchmaker show? It's awful, and her cattle calls for women really make me wonder WTF they are thinking.

Connie, that is basically the surgery I'm planning in January--they aren't taking off cataracts, but are putting in the lens so I don't need glasses anymore. It's hella expensive, but I figure in the long run it should save me money (and be awesome)

Yeah, I saw one of those shows. Matchmaker for the Millionaires, or some such. Kinda crazy.

One of the questions she asked was "are you only interested in women who are financially stable" or something to that degree. After she told the price, I was wondering if the women pay. I'm skeptical. But, free consult, can't hurt, right?

ION- I am not focusing very well today. Not quite caught up on sleep yet. It's the end of the quarter. Things are hitting calm right now. And brain just doesn't want to do anything. Plus, staying late tonight to see the final show of the quarter, and then we do a sound critique after. Not really in the mood for a show right now. But whatev. All piling up to say "brane no work now".

Because the surgery is for cataracts, an actual medical issue, my insurance will cover it. I've just gotten so used to Medicare covering everything my insurance doesn't for Hubby that I've gotten out of practice at dealing with medical costs.

I'm also fighting hard against the "I don't deserve the more expensive option, I can make do with the cheaper one" voices.

re: the actual surgery, meara, are you getting the multi focus lens? My astigmatism is complicating the issue, but it looks like they'd put in a near vision lens in one eye and a far vision lens in the other eye and let my brain figure out the processing.
