A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I've seen stuff about those young black men/white swingers parties, and while I intellectually understand people may have predispositions towards attractions for a certain type, that just skeeves me pretty much.

Those parties just seem to much Mandingo-esque for my comfort. Euch.

On the non-controversial other hand, I just had delcious Cajun food with my sister.

My family has always been lower-class, socioeconomically -- my mom worked for three years during the divorce years, but my dad was sole breadwinner for most of the marriage, and he was making 40K for a family of 4 when he retired in 1998, after working as a phone lineman for 38 years at the same company.

We never missed a meal, even though it might have been grilled cheese and tomato soup or SOS, and we always had a running car, albeit used and old. We never got electricity cut off, and my sister and I always got two new school outfits from Kmart or sometimes Penney's each September.

So, not stratchin' poor, but definitely middle-lower class, I think.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

The photo exhibit thing that I read about, the people at the parties called the men Mandingos. (I can't remember where I read about this, and I'm scared to google.)

Because books.

The neighbors just had me over to look at the paint colors for their living room and dining room, and I've now had two cold beers in very quick succession. While breathing paint fumes.

Re: the earlier porn discussion, I think recs like the Porn for Straight Girls ones are well-intentioned but ultimately not that helpful, because sexual turn-ons are so individual. If you take two straight women, the greatest common denominator in what turns them on is presumably someone with a penis, but that leaves a hell of a lot of variation in what kind of someone with a penis. Nothing they've recommended has been even close to something I'd like.

I'm also unsurprised, although skeeved, by the interracial cuckolding thing. I think that's a pretty standard theme in stuff like Penthouse Letters, too.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OK, I have thought this out a little more -- I'm afraid interracial porn, like anything else, follows the "90% is crap" rule, and in that case, most of the crap is totally skeevy. But it's not everything.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I'm always a little skeeved by situations where stuff seems to be acted out to fulfill the non-participating partner's fantasies. Which may be hypocritical since I have no such problem with the voyeuristic nature of porn. But at least with that the viewer's not generally saying "hey, gangbang my wife while I take pictures!"

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I don't know. It's sounding a bit like "Everybody's else's porn is skeevy and weird, but my freaky deeky thing that I like is untainted. And anybody that thinks my thing is weird makes me angry with their wrongness."

The status is NOT quo.

grilled cheese and tomato soup

Oh yes. You just made my dinner decision. Comfort food FTW!

I'm working on my NBCT renewal portfolio. It's slow going. I enjoy writing about teaching and learning and had done a lot of thinking about what I was going to write, but I probably should have thought about starting the actual writing before now. It's due a week from today. Um. Oops.

Eh. I reserve the right to think stuff is creepy. Doesn't mean I'll try to prevent people who are into it from enjoying themselves; I just won't be attending the key party.

For me, I think most of porn is skeevy and weird in some way, but that doesn't mean all of it is, or that a lot of it's not hot to look at.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

stuff seems to be acted out to fulfill the non-participating partner's fantasies

That's really not the dynamic I've encountered in the interracial cuckolding. The husbands seem to be fairly often in chastity belts undergoing orgasm denial, and they do participate, in order to clean up after where the black guy just went.

It's sounding a bit like "Everybody's else's porn is skeevy and weird, but my freaky deeky thing that I like is untainted. And anybody that thinks my thing is weird makes me angry with their wrongness."

Where are you getting that? Half your point is defensiveness, which I haven't seen here.

As for judgy, I am judgy about the racism I think is inherent in the interracial cuckolding kink, and I'm totally good with that. Judgy judgy judge.
