Georgia is one of the few states where the Governor CANNOT order a stay.
From what I understand, it's up to the parole board to grant clemency.

I think I am going to buy myself Amy's book for my birthday.

This is what I thought. I don't think the governor can order a stay in texas, either.
But can federal trump state on this, or does cross too deeply into a states rights issue?
I'm just hopeful that something can happen.
Aw! Thanks, Sophia! And everyone who's bought it! I just hope you all enjoy it.
The Supremes could intervene, but it doesn't look likely at this point.
The President can only pardon people convicted of a federal crime.
Ugh, that execution! Makes me angry, makes me feel little and ineffectual. How can justice go so completely wrong? I mean, I know I know justice CAN go wrong, I just... why can't someone step in and stop it?

This. So much this.
At this point, the Pardons and Parole board could reconsider, but it's unlikely. I wouldn't argue that he's not guilty. He may well be. I just don't think the death penalty should ever be on the table on a case heavily based on eyewitness reports.
If any of you feel like it, you can fax and call the numbers at this link (re: Troy execution). I did the faxes. I am not sure if I feel like calling.
I'm pretty upset by this. I am morally opposed to the death penalty in general and this one feel so unjust particularly.
The Supreme Court interference in the recent 2 TX executions gives me hope that perhaps they can shut this one down too.
I am not morally opposed to the death penalty. I'm opposed to the way it's implemented in this country. I'd have a much better opinion of it if they executed a few rich white guys. I also think there should be national standards for the degree of severity of crime that is eligible for the death penalty. It needs to be a premeditated crime of a horrific nature or a series of killings that show that the killer has no concern for human life.
