The problem isn't women in[...]. The problem is society's treatment and attitudes toward women. Period. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE GET THIS. I was already getting ragey because of the startup of Hollaback Bmore (shared some stories) and then this news came out and the reactions were exactly what I hate and UHGN.

I've been reading comments like that all over the Web. They think they're being all sympathetic by saying "It shouldn't have happened," but they don't realize (at least, I *hope* they don't) that by following up with the "what-were-you-wearing" comment, they're basically saying "bitch asked for it." Which...no.

I think some people understand exactly what they're saying, and some think they're being genuinely sympathetic.

Exactly. And I think Logan herself is being very brave. She didn't have to share that she was sexually assaulted as well as beaten, but she did, which is hugely important and helpful to other women who have been.

And she's still getting blamed. I give up.

I went for the response I did in part because of it being my friend's facebook and in part because it is SO FUCKING DEGRADING that people so cheerfully go to the "she was incompetent" place.

I'm just loving the notion that a person who likely hasn't left the dink town I grew up in in thirty years knows better than a seasoned journalist what is and is not acceptable clothing in Cairo.
