We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I suspect it's the contracting officer forcing the issue. With luck I'll get a bit of a raise, but not enough of one to make up for everything I'm losing/have already lost.

'Suela, that is so infuriating.

Because books.

Aw, Sparky, poor K. Is she on antibiotics?

That sucks, Consuela. I'm sorry.

She's not on any antibiotics right now. I'll ask for a script to take with me this weekend, anyway. The plan at the moment is to pick up the DH at Dulles at 7 a.m. on Saturday and then keep going to my parents' house.

Consuela, that awful.

Had a nice swim and chat with a fellow daily-distancer. She does 3 miles over three hours (she's retired.) She was convinced I must do more than I do because of my speed, but no. I've not yet made it to 3 miles. That'd be like 1:42 for me. IF I could keep up my 2 mile pace. Anyway, always nice.

And then I deemed it nice enough out to walk the Loki. OH BOY did he like that! I think he's forgotten most of his nerves from last fall's incident. He's daring like he first was. He even made friends with one of my next door neighbors. He's so coy when he's introduced to someone he doesn't already know.

I'm SERIOUSLY loving this weather. Opened up downstairs for about an hour before decided it was getting too cool. Fresh air, yay!

not your mom's socks.

My girl is still sick, feverish, and getting up at 2 a.m. for milk and at 4:30 a.m. for the day.

I missed this in the madness. Poor K. Poor mama. Do the docs have any clues?

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Oh holy fuck, look what some moron just put on a friend of mine's very sweet facebook post about Lara Logan and those who rescued her:

I feel for her but she also didn't have to go back to the country and she was dressed inappropriately for the region. At least have some common sense if you going back into this kind of an element. Still, it shouldn't have happened.

Imma turn into pixels and choke a bitch.

Srsly. The original post was very sweet:

A CBS reporter is attacked in Eqypt, rescued by Muslim women and Eqyptian soldiers...have you read the absolutely horrible things the ultra right bloggers are writing....female bloggers also...are they insane or just plain evil??

This is a dear person to me. A teacher from grammar school I've reconnected with on facebook. I adore this woman. The response was from a kid I remember as vaguely annoying's bitchy mom. Sort of not my place to completely let her have it. Like, "Lay off the FOX News for "factual" stuff Mrs. _____". I went with:

Cairo is a pretty cosmopolitain city. The clothing of an on-camera reporter wouldn't be that shocking a sight. I'm sure her (and her production team's) sense of what to wear in various locales, after a decade of international journalism, is well-informed and fully appropriate.

Just the facts, you know? Nevermind that she's an ignorant bigot and sexist to boot.

Pretty much the best and the worst of Facebook all in one.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I've been reading comments like that all over the Web. They think they're being all sympathetic by saying "It shouldn't have happened," but they don't realize (at least, I *hope* they don't) that by following up with the "what-were-you-wearing" comment, they're basically saying "bitch asked for it." Which...no.
