Wash: Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction. Zoe: We live in a space ship, dear. Wash: So?

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Srsly. The original post was very sweet:

A CBS reporter is attacked in Eqypt, rescued by Muslim women and Eqyptian soldiers...have you read the absolutely horrible things the ultra right bloggers are writing....female bloggers also...are they insane or just plain evil??

This is a dear person to me. A teacher from grammar school I've reconnected with on facebook. I adore this woman. The response was from a kid I remember as vaguely annoying's bitchy mom. Sort of not my place to completely let her have it. Like, "Lay off the FOX News for "factual" stuff Mrs. _____". I went with:

Cairo is a pretty cosmopolitain city. The clothing of an on-camera reporter wouldn't be that shocking a sight. I'm sure her (and her production team's) sense of what to wear in various locales, after a decade of international journalism, is well-informed and fully appropriate.

Just the facts, you know? Nevermind that she's an ignorant bigot and sexist to boot.

Pretty much the best and the worst of Facebook all in one.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I feel for her but she also didn't have to go back to the country and she was dressed inappropriately for the region. At least have some common sense if you going back into this kind of an element. Still, it shouldn't have happened.

I've been reading comments like that all over the Web. They think they're being all sympathetic by saying "It shouldn't have happened," but they don't realize (at least, I *hope* they don't) that by following up with the "what-were-you-wearing" comment, they're basically saying "bitch asked for it." Which...no.

Ann Friedman has a very good take on the whole thing. [link]

Not to miss the point about sexual assault, but wow -- I had NO idea that women still weren't allowed to compete in the ski jump in the Olympics.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Christian Furry Rock!

Don't say I didn't warn you.

The problem isn't women in[...]. The problem is society's treatment and attitudes toward women. Period. WHY CAN'T PEOPLE GET THIS. I was already getting ragey because of the startup of Hollaback Bmore (shared some stories) and then this news came out and the reactions were exactly what I hate and UHGN.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I think some people understand exactly what they're saying, and some think they're being genuinely sympathetic.

Me, I keep coming back to the part where rape is not the victim's fault. No matter what the extenuating circumstances - she chose to wear that, she chose to drink that, she chose to walk there - still. not. her. fault.

Exactly. And I think Logan herself is being very brave. She didn't have to share that she was sexually assaulted as well as beaten, but she did, which is hugely important and helpful to other women who have been.

And she's still getting blamed. I give up.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Grrrr. I keep trying to say something meaningful, but really just: grrrrr.
