IIRC, the town of New Madrid in Missouri, of earthquake fame, is pronounced by the locals as New MAD-rid. A good friend of mine grew up in Kentucky near a place called Hurricane Ridge, pronounced HAR-kan.

Arizona legislature targets 'human-animal hybrids'
The Arizona state Senate on Thursday passed a bill making it illegal for a person to “intentionally or knowingly creating a human-animal hybrid.”
The bill, which passed 16 to 12, would prohibit anyone in the state from “creating or attempting to create an in vitro human embryo by any means other than fertilization of a human egg by a human sperm.”
The measure would also outlaw “transferring or attempting to transfer a human embryo into a nonhuman womb,” “transferring or attempting to transfer a nonhuman embryo into a human womb” and “transporting or receiving for any purpose a human-animal hybrid.”

Patrick Kennedy back on the booze is a tragic setback
A sad story from Washington as Congressman Patrick Kennedy was seen drinking heavily in a bar after accepting an award for his battle against substance abuse.
Roll Call newspaper reported that at 11. p.m on Tuesday Kennedy was seen entering the bar , the Capitol Lounge and taking a seat at the counter.
In the space of a few minutes Kennedy downed six vodka shots and only stopped when the bartender refused to serve him
Earlier in the night, Kennedy had received an award for his work on addiction issues at the annual fundraising dinner for N Street Village, a local charity that helps low-income women battle homelessness and drug addiction.

I would have some concern this might make it illegal to do some research with say splicing in a human gene into a mouse embryo. But the other stuff makes it sound like that isn't what they are targeting. Which, okay, don't know that it's really an issue, but I can't say I have any objection.
