Thanks Tep!
I especially appreciate the warning on that page that cabbage should not be used by individuals who are allergic to cabbage.
Also loving their instructions:
Instructions: How to use of cabbage leaf compresses
1. Purchase a head of common green cabbage at the grocery store.
Jess, I think the cabbage leaf thing is true. I've heard you just take the leaves and stick them in your bra.
To use cabbage compresses for engorgement:
Wash a fresh head of green cabbage and place cabbage in refrigerator to chill. Just before use, crush the veins with a rolling pin or similar object or slice off the tops of the "veins" with a sharp knife, whatever makes the leaves shape to your breast most easily.
Drape one or two leaves over each breast, covering ALL of the engorged area. Leave on until they become wilted, about 20 to 30 minutes. Repeat three or four times within a 24 hour period, or until engorgement subsides. This will usually be within one to two days. If the engorgement is severe, compresses can be used as often as every 4 hours, but care should be taken as there is indication that cabbage leaves can work TOO well and end up reducing mother’s milk supply.
For the mother who is not breastfeeding, cabbage compresses can be used continuously to help dry up her milk. Discontinue immediately if skin becomes irritated.
from here: [link] (which you may or may not want to avoid since it's mostly written from a breastfeeding perspective.)
Of course, for special occasions you should dig up one of those decorative cabbages from the front of an apartment block or something.
Tep, I am now the proud owner of this. I came across it in a used bookstore. I thought you should know that such a thing exists. I...considered getting it for you but I, uh, really wanted it for myself.
No stealing cabbages!
Yeah, that might lead to Evil Witches wanting things from you or something, isn't that how it goes? Make sure if you steal cabbages you steal them from a good witch's garden...
I went and looked at a house today. As in, contemplating buying houses kind of looking. What a scary thought. This house would be nice for several reasons, but am not sure if Right House would "grab me" or what. It is possibly the only house currently on the market that I could afford/would want. But...
My blood pressure went up because I got a second chronic condition. My feeling is that high blood pressure is most likely a symptom of something not right. i am going to guess that even losing weight --which would possibly improve both my asthma and diabetes - I would still need pills for high blood pressure.
Most of my doctor experiences have been pretty neutral. Only one annoyed me -- because i had that stupid bronchial cough that kept me up at night - he dismissed it and gave me something that did nothing- at the way low does he gave me. I'm kind of glad I encounter him. He is the reason I look up everything in the PDR or equivalent. Because what he gave me did work at the therapeutic dose.
Good luck Drew. Low fat is hard on the road, but less pain is worth the trouble
Whoo! If smonster stops by, I am proud to announce that I have recruited my friend L. for Historic Green! Hec's met her, she was Tom's boss's wife (she is still M's wife, but M is no longer Tom's boss.)
Hot diggety damn!
Glad to hear the problem was with a "non-essential" organ, Drew. I've known others who had their gall bladder removed and all it meant was some dietary adjustments that they found easy to live with.
Have taken the dog on four walks, today. I think I definitely got my share of sunlight for the day. And he's been good for my back, too. I woke up this morning feeling a lot better than I have all week. It was like sleeping with a heating pad on my back all night and it seems to have loosened up the muscles around the part that was bothering me. The daughter may not get him back when she gets home.
