Hi Fern!I haven't seen Local Hero, but I like all the other movies you listed a lot, so I'll have to check it out.

Hi, Fern!
Hello, fellow-lurker Fern! The Name of the Rose was one of the twenty books I carried around the world with me, and Nick Cave is probably my favourite artist. Mostly I read science fiction though, and in my case Nick Cave is surrounded by, like, Depeche Mode and Blondie and The Smiths (shut up, I will be sixteen forever), but nice intersection anyway!
Thank you for the warm welcomes way back when, everyone. In particular: thanks Ouise, and you should totally let me know when you're next in Montréal; I'll definitely try to muster up the courage for a coffee or glass of wine. And sooper seekrit message for megan walker: Montréal would be a great city for an F2F. Maybe by the next time it rolls around to the East Coast I'll be properly decloaked and can pimp it for real.
- patiently waiting for new delurkers to declare their love for, say, The Sisters of Mercy and Gene Wolfe, so I can pipe up again*
Welcome, Fern! You remind me, I have Casablanca and Maltese Falcon patiently waiting on the shelf for me to watch them again.
Shambles, I like Sisters of Mercy... (note gratuitous use of ellipsis)
Good morning Fern, Shambles, and all you other lurkers and non-lurkers. I can't wait to see who else reveal themselves today.
Welcome, Fern! Your town sounds fascinating (in my mind, I picture the sex shop and the gun store on either side of the amusement park museum). I've said this like 23 times already, but I seriously LOVE this thread. Yay lurkers!
Kate! You moved to Nashville! That is crazy because next time I have to go home I'M GOING TO SEE YOU.
Dude! Any idea when you'll be down this way again? Around the holidays, maybe? WE SHALL MAKE PLANS.

Loving this thread so much!! Hi, all you lurkers out there!!
Fern, I'll mention this here since I know you'll be reading it--since you love British films, films from the '40s, and Local Hero, I'm hoping you've seen I Know Where I'm Going? If not, you simply must! I just loaned my dvd to a co-worker yesterday, so I have it on my mind. Terrific film with Wendy Hiller from 1945 that LH was definitely inspired by.
Good morning, Fern! You're totally local (you're probably just a few blocks from Emmett's school, even).
And a native San Franciscan? Excellent! What high school did you go to? I went to Mac, perched on the edge of the canyon just below Sutro Tower.
