Jayne: Captain, can you stop her from bein' cheerful, please? Mal: I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just wanna duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month.

Loving this thread so much!! Hi, all you lurkers out there!!

Fern, I'll mention this here since I know you'll be reading it--since you love British films, films from the '40s, and Local Hero, I'm hoping you've seen I Know Where I'm Going? If not, you simply must! I just loaned my dvd to a co-worker yesterday, so I have it on my mind. Terrific film with Wendy Hiller from 1945 that LH was definitely inspired by.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Good morning, Fern! You're totally local (you're probably just a few blocks from Emmett's school, even).

And a native San Franciscan? Excellent! What high school did you go to? I went to Mac, perched on the edge of the canyon just below Sutro Tower.

I haven't seen Local Hero, but I certainly agree with the fabulousness of I Know Where I'm Going. But, then, I'm a big Powell/Pressburger fan.

Hi Fern! Yay for delurkng and in my home town too! EC represent. Is anyone else lurking in EC? Maybe there's an unusual concentration of lurking Buffistas here.

I have to add to the awesome that is El Cerrito, an otherwise nondescript place with 1940s bungalows and unfortunate 50s, 60s, and 70s architecture. El Cerrito is home to Les Blank of the perhaps not well known Gap-toothed Women and assorted other documentaries. John Fogarty and the other CCR members went El Cerrito high. We have a button store, that's all they sell. It is home to 33 Revolutions (yes I know I'm repeating myself, but it bears repeating). What Fern didn't mention is that the adult toy/bookstore is part one of a trifecta of porn, thai food, and no tell motel. Not that I saw my best friend's father take full advantage 25 years ago, nope, uh uh. Oh and this trifecta has staying power. Okay I'm sure there's more awesome but now I'm just bragging about my home town. I'm just so excited EC turns out to be a hotbed of Buffista lurkerdom.

Sorry for any typos. I'm writing this on my phone. Hi Fern again! EC glee!

Wait, what? Why is thai food in there between arousal and consummation? Have I been doing it wrong all these years?

The order really is important isn't it?

It should read porn, no tell motel, and thai food.

/proud lurker who learned how to quote. This thread is like having Buffista training wheels.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Megan, Local Hero is a sort of homage to I know Where I'm Going. If you know the film, you'll recognize and delight in the little touches throughout. It's also a WONDERFUL film in its own right and you should see it right now.

You, and all the cool lurkers who have been posting.
