Hmm. It's sounds like the finest party I can imagine getting paid to go to.

Because books.

Growing up in the Northeast, we *never* went back until after Labor Day. The first time the kids had to go back before, I was completely thrown.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I started on the day after labor day until graduate school, no matter what school I was in -- I was convinced as a kid that it was the Official First Day everywhere and for all time. And even though I've known better for a long time now, it still just feels wrong when it's any other day.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I know which one makes more sense in my head, but does it really matter if the kids are in school through August or June?

Always started early-mid August. The one time we ran into June was weird.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

it will be allright Jesse. And if it is not, then you will dump them early, so says I.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

When I was in elementary school, we always went back the Tuesday after Labor Day, but by the time I was in high school we were starting a week or two earlier.

I've heard of some school districts now that are shortening the summer and adding in longer winter and spring breaks instead, which makes a TON of sense to me from a "not forgetting everything they learned over the summer" perspective. (And also gives people more flexibility for taking their big family vacations in the off-season if they want.)

The school year seems so long here, going to the end of June. I kind of hate it. I think summer should be at least 12 weeks. I realize when we were in school our year was shorter and we did not get a week in Feb PLUS a week in April.

I know it will be all right. Honestly, the main problem is I keep tearing up because I'm blaming the whole thing of leaving on my father! Which is about 60% of the reason...

I was surprised how much Sara's handwriting degraded just in a few months, actually.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Steampunk rugged corset

Steampunk maker Nifer Fahrion worked with Robynne Winchester of Tulgey Wood Designs to whip up this rugged, construction grade corset to wear at Burning Man with the Man KCrew:

To create this hybrid corset, I first chose a fabric consisting of same type of rugged cotton canvas found throughout the Carhartt line. Durable, practical, and breathable, the material allows me to get down and dirty with my hammer and drill without fear of damaging my corset.

Next it was important the corset be functional and versatile. I attached holsters for a hammer, drill, tape measure and pliers, as well as pockets to use for assorted needs while working.

All the tool holsters and pockets are attached to the corset with heavy-duty snaps allowing me to change the configuration according to my needs on the job site.
