I still use the occasional video tape because we don't have a DVR, but only to tape something to watch maybe once or twice afterward, knowing I'll have it on DVD eventually.
I still have cassette tapes, and most of them have degraded so badly by now I *should* throw them out. I used to listen to them in the old car, which still had a tape deck, but that's gone, so.
Hoarders both fascinate me and freak me out. And someone on the level Sparky's talking about -- wow. There's a serious need for medical intervention there.
I don't have a VCR, and I do still have some tapes, so I guess those should be next.
I still do use by VHS for some yoga and pilates tapes, (not as often as i should), but it's down in the basement with all the other discards...and my computer.
I have some old Prairie Home Companions from the '80s that aren't available that I'd like to copy. I'm hoping that since the tapes have been stored here in dry Utah that they've survived.
What Would Brian Boitano Make? is incredibly campy. Gotta love a guy who's so willing to poke fun at himself and have fun.
(Yes, I know for a fact that many "best used by" dates err on the side of caution, so there's some wiggle room if you're, say, a month past on some items, but it's better to err on the side of caution WHEN SOMETHING IS TWO YEARS OUT OF DATE.)
My mom used to buy me variety packs of Breakfast Squares. I liked the cinnamon best, so always ate that one first. When I got to the chocolate squares of one pack I discovered it was like a brick, and we found out the box's sell-by date was over a year and a half before. Yet the cinnamon square from that box hadn't been noticeably stale at all. Gave mea better understanding of why people used to travel hundreds of miles to trade spices.
I think I'm a hoarder with regard to my videotape collection, but at least I incorporated it nicely into my living room decor.

When we were setting up for my dad's 70th b-day party we were putting out hors d'oeurves and I grabbed a big summer sausage from his fridge to add to the mix - and then knowing him as I do I thought to check the best by date. It expired
in 2005.
A couple of years ago we were at Drew's parents' house, and his mom sent him out to the garage to grab a soda. He found a Coke that was covered in Olympics graphics. The 1980 Olympics. Seriously, we were both speechless.
Do you know what some Coke collectors would pay for a vintage can with Olympic graphics? Two groups with priority issues. Some pay more for the full can, too.

Oh yeah, my grandmother has (or at least, had) stuff that old in her freezer. She has a total Depression mentality about food, but doesn't actually cook much any more.
