When I got to the chocolate squares of one pack I discovered it was like a brick, and we found out the box's sell-by date was over a year and a half before.
When we were setting up for my dad's 70th b-day party we were putting out hors d'oeurves and I grabbed a big summer sausage from his fridge to add to the mix - and then knowing him as I do I thought to check the best by date. It expired
in 2005.
A couple of years ago we were at Drew's parents' house, and his mom sent him out to the garage to grab a soda. He found a Coke that was covered in Olympics graphics. The 1980 Olympics. Seriously, we were both speechless.
Do you know what some Coke collectors would pay for a vintage can with Olympic graphics? Two groups with priority issues. Some pay more for the full can, too.

Oh yeah, my grandmother has (or at least, had) stuff that old in her freezer. She has a total Depression mentality about food, but doesn't actually cook much any more.
My key lime pie is a key LAME pie. The whipped cream is lame, the custard is lame (and I'm pretty sure the zest should be adding texture) and the crust is tasty, but lame. I'll chalk it up to a learning experience.
Zest? In Key lime pie? Huh.
Oh man, I feel like I've been so out of it. My home computer died and I now share an office at work. Internet time has dropped dramatically. I miss it here! Hi everybody!
Anyway, I'm glad sarameg had a good time at my b'day party! I love putting my people together!!! I am not as hungover today from the awesome margaritas as some people in this house are but I'm moving pretty slowly.
Jenp! That is very exciting about your impending move!! When you have a chance, email me and we can talk about possible good housing options for you! And maybe plan a get-together when you're in Bel Air for training.
Hah! How late did things go? I was safe to drive, so unsurprisingly no hangover happened here. Those were remarkable margaritas.
You are Ambassador for Baltimore, you know?
Really ought to attack the dustbunnies or the bush. Hrmph. Not feeling either.
Oh, lunch!
Zest? In Key lime pie? Huh.
4 teaspoons of it!
ETA: I was following the America's Test Kitchen Recipe, but even my Pie and Pastry Bible recipe has 1.5 teaspoons of zest. next time, however, I am going way easy on the zest.
I've never seen a recipe calling for zest. But then again, I found my One True Recipe years ago and any deviations I make are of my own creation.
