I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

edit: Oh, lord, I'm now picturing Nick covered in rhinestones.

Well JGL could come close to carrying that look off.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Matt Bomer is an excellent suggestion. Sharp suits and yearning? Oh yeah, he can do that.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Tobey Maguire is the one major weak spot in that trailer. I don't understand why people keep casting him in period pieces, he looks and sounds ridiculous in them.

I saw a trailer the other day for a period piece about moonshiners, called Brothers, I think. It starred Shia LaBoeuf and he looked utterly out of place. Also, he's just not old enough to carry that role.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Yeah, Jilli, I do want to hit him until he talks like a normal person, and then maybe a little more.

Oh good, then it's not just me. ita !, will you be my designated hitter? I know you know how to throw a punch, unlike me.

THIS! It's like when Keanu kept getting cast in costume dramas. Why was he in Dangerous Liaisons, why? Or Dracula?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The best I can do for JGL in rhinestones: [link]

will you be my designated hitter?

Oh, I got your back.

If I were making my movie come to life, gravitas would be high on the list of things I'd get OCD about it, and that's something neither Shia nor Tobey have convinced me of, ever. Like, even if the movie were a comedy, I'd still want to know everyone above the fold had the capacity for gravitas. It's just a thing.

Some people's continued employment boggles me.

I think it is because of his physicality. I recently rewatched Dangerous Liasons, and he does this beautiful puppy dog head thing with John Malkovitvh, and he is just so innocent and sweet and sensual. then he opens his mouth.

Tobey Maguire I got nothing. I saw him in Cider House Rules and thought his lack of affect in his voice was brilliant. Then I realized it was just his voice! And it makes me want to kill him.

I don't often think of you wanting to kill people, Sophia. I swear I'm not laughing at you, just laughing at the idea that this guy's flatness sparks so much violence in people. Why is that?

And you totally can't kill him until after I pimp slap him up and down the block. These things have a natural order.

Because books.

The Tobey Maguire hate is so surprising! I mean, I don't love him, but mostly he's just not on my radar at all.

I just read this on wikipedia:

During many of his auditions, Maguire found himself auditioning for roles opposite another rising actor, Leonardo DiCaprio. The pair struck up a fast friendship and made an informal pact to help each other get parts in their movies/TV shows/other projects. For example, both auditioned for the same part in the 1990 TV series based on the 1989 comedy Parenthood. DiCaprio got the part, and Maguire later got a guest role at least partially due to DiCaprio's recommendation. The same scenario played itself out during casting for the 1993 movie This Boy's Life (featuring Robert De Niro as the lead); DiCaprio got the main teen role (coincidentally, the character was named "Toby") and Maguire got a part as one of Toby's friends.

So maybe they wanted to work together?
