hm ... according to one family geneologist, we have a Plantagenet waaay back in the family tree ... non-legitimate, but there. I'd take this with a grain of salt ... a big grain. Supposedly one Scottish ancestor was honored for bravery at the battle that put the Bruces on the throne and an English one killed the last of the Bruces at whichever battle that was.
Family legends ... if they aren't interesting, make something up!
Barb, I don't think so. They mainly just don't talk to each other about anything important.
My father used to claim that we were distantly related to the Stuart royal family on our Scottish side, but I'm pretty sure the entire UK and most of Western Europe would have to be wiped out before we could inherit the throne. Maybe when Greenland finally melts enough to cause that mini ice age we've all been worrying about.
Health~ma for your mom, Hil.
That is awesome, flea. DH and I are both the first college graduates on either side. None of our sibs graduated either.
Thanks, guys. It looks like she'll be OK, but she said that it took them about seven hours to stabilize her blood pressure. They're not sure what set off the allergic reaction -- as far as she knows, she's not allergic to anything.
Some of my ancestors (or, at least, cousins of my ancestors) were involved in a feud over leadership of the Frankfurt Jewish community. [link]
DH and I are both the first college graduates on either side.
I'm kinda the opposite. I was born while my parents were both in college.
Hil, glad to hear your mother's going to be all right.
I think I'm the first college graduate on my mother's side. On my father's side, there's one great-uncle who not only graduated college, but went on to teach mathematics at the University of Idaho in Pocatello.
Rumor has it that my mother's side was connected to Fibber McGee and Molly.
I was the first college grad on either side, from what I understand.
Both of my grandmothers and one of my grandfathers went to college. (Or, at least, some sort of post-secondary school -- my grandmother went to whatever school was required to become a kindergarten teacher in Germany in the thirties.)
