I think I'm the first college graduate on my mother's side. On my father's side, there's one great-uncle who not only graduated college, but went on to teach mathematics at the University of Idaho in Pocatello.

Rumor has it that my mother's side was connected to Fibber McGee and Molly.

I was the first college grad on either side, from what I understand.

Both of my grandmothers and one of my grandfathers went to college. (Or, at least, some sort of post-secondary school -- my grandmother went to whatever school was required to become a kindergarten teacher in Germany in the thirties.)

Let's see . . . my genealogy has turned up a Dutch sailor who joined up with the Moors and became an admiral of their pirate fleet, led a major raid on Baltimore in Ireland, and ended his days commanding a fortress. I've also got Quaker martyrs, a colonial Massachusetts governor, and a captain in Cromwell's army, through whom I'm related to Benjamin Rush, who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Joe's distant relative founded Salem. One of my distant relatives was accused of witchcraft (never tried) in Salem. Nice to know the bickering is come by honestly.
