Buffista Music 4: Needs More Cowbell!
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
I'm tired. I didn't stay for St. Vincent.
But...she's like tommyrot's perfect girl.
Has anyone ever seen St. Vincent and Miranda July in the same room together?
It's not new, but I was just watching Beck's Record Club doing INXS last night, and she's singing "Need You Tonight" here: [link]
Did anyone see this: [link] It's a review of male metal singers by a classically trained voice teacher who'd never heard them before. Bob and I sent the link to my MIL, also an opera singer who'd never heard them before. She responded: "I do find this very interesting and I actually like the 'music.'" Her favorite was Bruce Dickinson, though Judas Priest was "up there." She said of Halford "I loved it. I love the scream. The voice quality is pleasant and even. I like it. Wow who would have thought I would become a fan!!" So we had to get her opinion on the greatest rock vocalist of all time. So now she "loves" Queen, and is sad that Freddie Mercury passed. She "feel[s] reborn in a 2010 body!!!"
That's cool, Bon. I'm going to send it to my voice teacher. She's an opera gal and has made similar comments. She always insists Freddie was vocally trained even though he denied it.
She said of Halford "I loved it. I love the scream. The voice quality is pleasant and even. I like it. Wow who would have thought I would become a fan!!"
I have a buddy with a music theory degree and a trained voice in punk band. He talks about how he uses his scream more as a tour goes on because its pretty easy on him -- its just his falsetto sort of tweaked. So he'll SOUND like he's killing himself, but he's really taking it easy on himself as he gets tired. [link]
