"Little Red Corvette" isn't the only song to equate a woman with a car, but it is probably one of the most blatantly sexual of those songs. Fortunately, Prince was smart enough to disguise the references just enough to get the song past the censors. Despite the innuendo, "Little Red Corvette" is still considered one of Prince's biggest hits and was often the first song that came to mind when we asked people to name their favorite car song.
Too bad they didn't include Robert Johnson's "Terraplane Blues"....
eta: I think I read somewhere that "Terraplane Blues" was the first song to us a car as a sexual metaphor. Does that make sense?

So I downloaded a compilation album that has the song "Sunspots" by Julian Cope that I totally love. Apparently this was released as a single (but not on an album) in 1985.
So what's a good album by Julian Cope? Also, I know he was in Teardrops Explode but I'm not very familiar with that band - what's a good album by them?

World Shut Your Mouth is Julian's first and (I think) best solo album.
I like Kilimanjaro of the Teardrop albums.
But also checkout Julian's website which has tons of amazing reviews and writing. He's personally responsible for the popular rediscovery of Krautrock, among other tastemaker achievements.
I love his Glamrocksampler.

I've got that Sunspots 7" (actually, I have a double 7" version that's got another good song called Mik Mak Mok), but I agree with David in recommending World Shut Your Mouth and Kilimanjaro. In terms of songs, the title track of the former and "When I Dream" from the latter are both great tunes.
Looking through my collection, I've got a five song "World Shut Your Mouth" 12" EP that has a great cover version of Pere Ubu's Non Alignment Pact.
