Buffista Music 4: Needs More Cowbell!
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Kilimanjaro has been reiussed and was reviewed just last week:
I really like Reward but it's not a typical song of theirs/his, I think.
Just four months after the death of lead singer Alex Chilton, original Big Star bassist Andy Hummel has died at the age of 59.
So sad.
Skippers.
Sue was sad way before the rest of you!
It is sad news though. I used to contribute to the Big Star zine Back of a Car back in the early 90s, and the editor, Judith Beeman, actually got to know Jody and Andy pretty well.
I was sad when Sue posted. . . but I didn't post.
I keep forgetting to mention that Trannyshack is having a special tribute this Friday. Twelve different drag queens will be doing...Siouxsie!
Kristin Hersh gig last night (as a special guest of Giant Sand) was truly superb. My only complaint was that she wasn't on enough. Trying to get tickets for a very small gig she's doing on Monday, but I think it's a sort of draw. We shall see!
Daisy Jane, Codeine Velvet Club cancelled last weekend, so I didn't get to see them. I was very disappointed! They barely gave any notice, too, so we didn't know until after we'd arrived. Which seems like a crappy thing for a band to do. The rest of the festival was fun, though. These New Puritans and Yeasayer are great live.
