It was called an "acheri demon" which seem to be based on malevolent sickness-causing ghosts from India. But I do recall being surprised by a demon that could take on human-esque form and kill people directly, rather than having to possess a host body to do so.

I suppose there are demons from Christian Hell, and then there are other supernatural nasties that would get labelled demon in, say, the Buffyverse. It's the hellbeasts that need hosts and the others are as close to their original mythology as Kripke could be bothered to hew for the sake of the screenplay.

The second half of Devil's Trap was a delight. Sadly not enough Sebastian Spence, but there never is.
Still, the pain train! There's a solid onslaught of torture and angst, topped off by smashing the Metallicar. The Impala! I am vague on many of reactions to S1 the first time round, but not that HSQ. Damn.
And we had to wait a whole summer to find out who survived, if anybody did! And we didn't even know if the show had been picked up for the next season! Uphill, both ways!
Syndication and hindsight are so much better. Kripke was an asshole.
That crash was so spectacular and shocking. Excellent, evil cliffhanger.
