We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know...insane.

Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

Because books.

I want those SO much. They remind of the wood chibis I made for Lee a couple years back.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

There had better be a whole bunch of Dorothy/Charlie in Oz waiting for me somewhere, damn it.

My only quibble was the shoes, which are SILVER in the books, not red. Ahem.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The Tin Man didn't die in the books either, IJS.

(which is to say, I called it out in the recap I did, but it's trivially fanwankable)

I was feeling some Samothy there for a second, but I ended up surprised that Dot and Charlie didn't skip off down the brick road hand in hand.

The beginning of the GOT scene was...it was really horrible. It sounded like, creatively, they'd looped the entire section--narratively, vocally, physically. From Sam crying "spoilers" until they get to the meat of Dean being home and Sam not--it left me on edge. Clearly I can love it when the show gets meta, but that failed for me on many levels.

I felt that Sam was being very bossy this episode. Is that because Charlie is his little sister? Or will we have behaviour changes due to the Zeke within? I want the latter, honestly.

IO9 seems to have officially stopped recapping the show, as opposed to halfassedly pointing to mine. I'm glad, because they were bitter throughout, only eager to take the reins when they hated something or it was a noisy gimmick. I just wish...they could have been more professional about the whole thing. Bring in a real paid person to write real recaps, and put the site behind it.

Ah, well.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I thought that was the point -- that the bad stuff that happened to this Dorothy in Oz didn't make it into the books. That doesn't explain the shoes, though.

The lost sheep grow teeth, forsake their lambs, and lie with the lions.

Maybe the heels had silver cores rather than steel ones?

Yeah, that bugged me, too.

Because books.

It's like Samhain, though -- 97% of people watching think Oz means red shoes. Do you use time explaining why they're silver? Same with Samhain -- pronounce it correctly and you have to explain it (which I think they should have done in that instance, but still).

How was the GoT scenes meta? It did seem awkward, especially Sam crying, "Spoilers!"

Team Free Will! Well, Disney princes as Team Free Will, anyway.

Whereas my takeaway was that changes had been made before hitting the page and there was no requirement to take anything literally from the one and demand it of the other. Once you throw out the term "revisionist history" I think they gave themselves fanwankable room to go with popular iconography if they so choose. They can't wish anyone away, she didn't wear the shoes...all sorts of wiggle room.

How was the GoT scenes meta?

Obviously Doctor Who got there most famously, but any cry of "Spoilers!" is going to call up meta fandom associations for me, since they're not just making Sam a fan, they're making him one of us.

"Spoilers" as a term gets used in pretty mainstream places now, though.

Really thoughtful post about queer representation and the Dean/Cas shippers here: [link]

Yes. However, I don't react to it in a vacuum. When CSI talks about a convention, it's with an implicit "those congoers". When Supernatural does it, it's "you/us congoers." When you're talking about a fan who wants to read the primary source and not get spoiled, you're not talking about mainstream anymore.

I also think it was very sloppy, which only contributed to my awkward reception--I expect Sam to forget Dean reads, but I don't expect Dean to. Oh, well, writers. Oh, well.

If I believed in changing my preferences for fear of reputation contamination, I'd be running screaming from the Dean/Castiel ship. I don't know of any other slash ship not on Tween Wolf that has "QUILTBAG rights" so selfishly and spuriously conflated with "my rocks (and getting off them)". It's appalling, and I can only hope that TPTB are so confused they just go back to what they're doing. If that means Dean and Cas never schtup, FINE. I wasn't actually rooting for it in the first place.

If it means Dean isn't played as ambidextrously as before, I will be sad, but I guess I know why we can't have nice things.
