I thought that was the point -- that the bad stuff that happened to this Dorothy in Oz didn't make it into the books. That doesn't explain the shoes, though
Whereas my takeaway was that changes had been made before hitting the page and there was no requirement to take anything literally from the one and demand it of the other. Once you throw out the term "revisionist history" I think they gave themselves fanwankable room to go with popular iconography if they so choose. They can't wish anyone away, she didn't wear the shoes...all sorts of wiggle room.
How was the GoT scenes meta?
Obviously Doctor Who got there most famously, but any cry of "Spoilers!" is going to call up meta fandom associations for me, since they're not just making Sam a fan, they're making him one of us.

Yes. However, I don't react to it in a vacuum. When CSI talks about a convention, it's with an implicit "those congoers". When Supernatural does it, it's "you/us congoers." When you're talking about a fan who wants to read the primary source and not get spoiled, you're not talking about mainstream anymore.
I also think it was very sloppy, which only contributed to my awkward reception--I expect Sam to forget Dean reads, but I don't expect Dean to. Oh, well, writers. Oh, well.
If I believed in changing my preferences for fear of reputation contamination, I'd be running screaming from the Dean/Castiel ship. I don't know of any other slash ship not on Tween Wolf that has "QUILTBAG rights" so selfishly and spuriously conflated with "my rocks (and getting off them)". It's appalling, and I can only hope that TPTB are so confused they just go back to what they're doing. If that means Dean and Cas never schtup, FINE. I wasn't actually rooting for it in the first place.
If it means Dean isn't played as ambidextrously as before, I will be sad, but I guess I know why we can't have nice things.

One thing I raised my eyebrow at was the unkillable witch that could only be momentarily inconvenienced by the poppy bullets. Really? It works for the solo hunter in the 50s, but the Winchesters have at least one weapon that they routinely kill angels with. Why not give that a try and see if it works?

Well-written, though I'd say that on a series with two main characters and five frequently recurring ones, having one of the latter as a positive lesbian portrayal is already doing pretty good and generating good audience feedback for the creators. (Nevermind that the recurring character who's the show's favorite villain often codes as queer too.) Given that, I doubt the worst-case scenario the author posits is a real possibility.

What have we seen it magically kill, though, outside of the Heaven/Hell paradigm? I assume that when you stabbed a human with it, they just react like you stabbed them with a big dagger.
I'd like to see them expand on that, if there's expansion to be had. But the idea that Oz has its own rules and Jehovah is irrelevant to her was where my head was for the episode. Not that she was like any of our witches who've dallied with Hellish powers.

Matt, I am so disappointed in you. Why don't you understand how badly homosexuality is portrayed, how the queer audience is betrayed 23 times a year plus conventions and interviews? Are you sure you're gay? Please view and report back your heart rate and blood pressure.
