Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?
[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.
That's a little bit disappointing, Morgana. I was looking for some righteous
Lancelot.
Huh. I wonder if a
Round Table
AU exists and is compatible with my tendencies.
So....did we lose everyone? Why is a torrenting West Coaster the only one here to talk?
I have to say--Sam with a chick and Cas shotgun is my worst nightmare fic, and it didn't half hurt to see it get Kripked. But, you know--in the end they chose family/.
Jesus Christ--Jared continues to be an amazing specimen of the species. That "paint me like you paint your French girls" lounging just about killed me. But, no, still anti-Amelia. I guess she does exist for real, and there's no glamour, since she showed up alone to the motel.
Speaking of showing up to the motel, I love how Sam completely didn't expect Dean, which led me to guess, along with the tenor, that he never said where he was. Maybe he checked in as Wedge Antilles, though.
I'm gonna lay down internet money on the back half featuring Benny going Soylent again, but managing to take himself out (second vote is Sam taking him out in front of Dean). But that was a great breakup they had.
Cas, Cas broke my heart. Watching Naomi play him up and down the 180--it seems like she orders things he would do, and then the thing he would absolutely not do. I dig that she might have a fair mission, to avoid the angels being locked into heaven (season finale locks the door, and it all depends on what Misha wants to do next year--Cas gets locked away, and they don't see him again (until 1/2 way through S9, when they work out how to undo the thing that was so absolute the season before), or he is on this side of the door, and must pilgrimage to learn the ways of humans, to live among them, and he's also a pacifist (but not kooky), and we don't see him again until he gets into trouble 1/2 way through...you get the picture.
Carver? Call me!
I guess you go to hiatus in a moment of stress, but this episode feels like a much better pausing point--they're back to empty, and they have to work out a different way to achieve what they set as their goal at the start of the season, as well as puzzle out this new mystery of the haemolacriatic angel.

I've seen it posited elsewhere that this was originally meant to have been the last episode before the hellatus.

I think so, too.
Also, who else can tell Sera's not writing for the show anymore? Sam and Amelia had sex and all we got was Sam shirtless. Which doesn't at all suck, to be clear, but some manhandling and biting would have been nice.
I liked the way the end was framed -- it wasn't just Sam making a choice, it was Dean, too, breaking up with Benny. They're definitely not yet SamandDean again, but they might be on the way back at some point.
Cas telling Dean, "I'm helping people," was so heartbreaking in light of what Naomi had him doing. Also? I found Crowley really boring last night. MS didn't have any of his usual evil sparkle.
I found Crowley less entertaining, but I'm willing to trade that for monomaniacally evil in a heartbeat, so I'm content with his behaviour.
I found the moment where Dean saves Sam and Sam thanks him to be where they both realise they do
this.
That
this
is important, and that it's the two of them, and Cas can show up occasionally too, and somehow they need to work the logistics out by the end of the episode.
It was pretty obvious that Sam wasn't going back to the hotel room, but I did wonder if it would be a choice to simply not go, or a "I have to do this thing right now" decision. I do feel it was the former--more a "I have to do this thing" period decision.
And Dean breaking up with Benny was pretty much all about Sam. Because if he was solo or had Cas in tow, he could probably drop by for coffee when the urges got too strong even while searching for tablets. But he can't do that without putting stress on his relationship with Sam, and in the end this is why no matter how many times Benny used the word, he was not a brother substitute. Bobby and Cas are family. "Thank you for showing me the way out of Purgatory" would be a big thing in our lives, but compared to what Winchesters do for their own, it's more like a walk in the park.
He doesn't want to fight anymore, poor noodle.
I don't recall--we didn't see that Sam knows he broke it off with Benben, right? Because there was a modicum of mystery about whether Dean was alone or not watching the match, right?
I notice no hard liquor this episode, but it seemed that Sam and Dean had either a beer or a weapon in their hands through most of the episode.
I'm seeing people hypothesise that Crowley was an angel because he had an angel blade at some time, but they are clearly things that can be held and kept, right? It's just angels who manifest them (although I'm not quite sure where Sam was keeping his while they were walking through the warehouse--also, maybe a quieter way to blot out the sigils?) but Crowley could totally have held on to one he found.
I'm curious about what Crowley used to bind Samandriel, and where he learnt it. Did he know that while he was working with Cas?
I love this animated GIF from the ep: [link]

Sara cracked up during that scene. "He just appeared! Sam's so surprised! Bwah!"

I don't think he was in the room when Dean called Benny, but it seemed to me like it was shortly after that they sat down together to eat. No idea if he actually knows Dean called him, though.
If Crowley turns out to be an angel -- after being a crossroads demon and the king of hell -- I will hurt someone.

OMG. This didn't even occur to me. And now I think that's where they are going.
I'm pretty firmly in Amy's camp on the topic.
I don't see evidence, and I don't see motivation. It doesn't fix anything, improve anything, or attractively complicate anything. And it's not exceedingly sad.
Also, there has to be a point at which they separate cleanly from Good Omens. Better sooner than later.
But, really, I don't know how you can get through, what? Three seasons with Lucifer and not mention the fallen angel right in the room (or get anything from his reactions). It would be an awkward retcon.
Oh--we saw Naomi fading in the white room. Any ideas? Because I got nothing. She'd have to be material to reprogram Cas with the pokey things, no?
It's always interesting following a new tumblr and learning their ways (and deciding if you're going to stay). I look at this [link] and wonder "Shouldn't you at least
tag
for Rule 63, if it's not deemed worthy of a warning?"
WHO ARE THOSE PEOPLE?
That redoubles my motivation to get this stupid picture worked out, because there are at least implied penises. (Double of ..005 isn't much--I'm lacking in sticktoitiveness something awful)
Also isn't it canon that Crowley was a tailor who sold his sould for a couple of added inches to his dick? And had had a human son who hated him?
Not saying that cannot be retconned, but that is some retconning. I don't get a vote, but I vote no anyway.
I went back through my files, and the most I could come up with was his ability to speak Enochian.
