Because books.

Here's a vaguely on-topic question: Do you think Sam and/or Dean would have watched X-Files? And if so, what episodes do you think they would have loved, ironically or not?

I bet Dean would have loved The Unnatural.

But of course they would love Bad Blood. Except where I think that Sam embodies both Mulder and Scully.

And Dean can whip out a Kurosawa reference.

I think I stopped watching at the Butt Genie episode, and didn't return until the series finale during the first f2f.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So, I knew the story would be dodgy, because I haven't really liked the author before, and it's one of those back and forth quasi-RP ones--but given that it's one of those, not bad in how they handled it.

But not good.

The premise is an 18 year old Dean seduces a straight 29 year old Cas in a club, and then on Monday they find out that Cas is Dean's art teacher for his senior year at high school. Fine, whatever, May/December drama.

Except--secondary pairing? SAM/GABRIEL. And no, no changes to birth order, or to the canon age gap between Sam and Dean. Gabe is about 32, and Sam is 14, and Gabriel gives Sam a 4 year calendar to cross off every single fucking day until he's legal. Until then, they just have long deep conversations and Sam kisses Gabriel on the cheek spontaneously from time to time.

it's very much a background pairing, but every time I remember it, it grosses me out so much that the rest of the story is spoilt. It's not like it's so good that it's worth it.

But, on the other hand, it is there...and I started it...

I am to blame for my own problems.

I got lost in the blog Misha linked to about proof that he was the antichrist and cookies. I am saddened about the lack of brain function in the ensuing posts on both sides of the increasingly spiraling topic.

So, for Purgatory fic, there's one where Dean has to subsist off of Castiel's blood, and one where he's actually eating Cas. Dudes, Sam was in Hell with his actual body for a century and eating wasn't an issue.

ION, of course any spawn of Gen and Jared would have exotic eyes.

Actually Sam's body made it back almost immediately. Remember it was walking around without him for a year and a half topside.

Doesn't negate the fact that Sam's soul and body went into the cage, and then Cas went and got his body while his soul remained behind. If Sam's body was elsewhere (somewhere in the dirt of Stull Cemetery) and Cas went to the cage to retrieve him, Cas wouldn't have come back with the body.

Which begs the question: how was Cas able to retrieve anything from the cage, and how did Sam's soul become separated from his body.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

If your point hinges on the fact that Sam's body was in Hell for a long time--how long was it down there? How long did it take for Cas to rescue him? Do we know that there was no eating, if eating was required? And do we know that Purgatory follows the same rules as Hell?

Ah, I see my flaw. If I remember right (which I probably don't), didn't Cas pretty much go to rescue Sam the second he flapped out of Dean's car after the peace/freedom conversation? Which could still translate to a bit of time in Hell years (a week or so? Who's good at hell!math?).

That said, we know nothing.

It just bothers me that a place of death, be it for monsters or human souls, would require sustenance (I do realize that I'm still banging my head about two instances of fannon, and will have to wait to see Shows take on it). And then again, I'm back to there being actual physical undead bodies in a place of death. If Dean dies there, does he go to heaven or is his soul stuck in purgatory? Will we ever know where angels go when they die?! (Not that I want to find out with Cas!!).
