This isn't a come-on. I'm in a very serious relationship with a landscape architect.

Because books.

I think this is where I realize I'm more like Dean, because ... angels aren't real. And the conflicting accounts of which angel belongs to which day isn't any more surprising than all the other pieces of Biblical lore told and retold by different authors that contradicts itself.

I guess, for me, there's never going to be any one way to make it right (although a nod from the writers is always great -- yes, we meant to say he really is the angel of Thursday) so I make my best guess based on available information and what pleases me most.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

A best guess on available information doesn't get you to Castiel, usually. So extrapolating from that is unsatisfying. If that was the predominant "answer", then the corresponding Wednesday guy being Raphael would trigger a couple bunnies for me. Hell, it's Assiel or Buttiel, there's somewhere different to start.

But if your axioms have no basis, you can't make any deductions. Just creation. Which is a different thing.

If the show said there were 17 archangels, and the most important of them was named Cathy, then...not an arena that's interesting for me to speculate in, since everything is equally true and untrue at the same time.

I probably should have said I just don't care that much, I guess? I love it when something in a show or a book is based in fact, but Castiel's official role in heaven doesn't really mean anything to me in the larger scheme of things.

Although I would like to know what an angel of Thursday does. Protect Thursday? Protect children born on that day?

Also, isn't "Castiel" (the word) used in a S1 or S2 episode when they're doing an exorcism or something? I could swear it was, which makes me wonder if it was just a cool-sounding word/name they ran with.

Found it on SuperWiki: "Castiel's name is first mentioned in the Season 3 episode 3.06 Red Sky At Morning during the graveyard scene where Sam reads aloud a summoning ritual from his father's journal. He speaks the names of several angels during the ritual, and one of them is Castiel."

I like when I'm able to plausibly build out a universe--whether it's for fanworks or meta--because the showrunners have a decent bible and cite their sources.

I'm not saying they have to restrict themselves, or anything, but lots of people have clear Christianity expectations. Is it usually worth it to violate those? When Castiel says this is a Metatron issue, I think it's stronger because whether it's religion or Kevin Smith movies, some people have a sense of recognition, and it fleshes your story out without you having to do that particular legwork. And it's just nice!

I mean, when someone says "there are probably hunter therapists" you're thinking "Okay, that's random, and WTF?" But if you're poring over texts to try and predict who they're going to announce as the fourth archangel, or the other things the Colt can't kill...I dunno. Free shibboleth?

(I'm all about the shibboleth these days)

(And argot)

You're making me look things up.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

The D/C circus AU that I'm in the middle of has some brilliant mapping of canon.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Well, Thursday's Child has far to go*. I've always thought that had a lot to do with him being the angel of Thursday, and Castiel's journey of self-discovery.

*Monday's Child is fair of face
Tuesday's Child is full of grace
Wednesday's Child is full of woe (thus, Wednesday Addams)
Thursday's Child has far to go
Friday's Child is loving and giving
Saturday's Child has to work for its living
But the Child that's born on the Sabbath Day is bonny and blithe and good and gay.

Take that last as you will.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I was born on Sunday, which blasts the hell out of that theory.

Eh. Some of us think you're pretty bonny and blithe, even if it's a sort of bitteresque bonny and blithe.

Wow. I'm looking at Daggomus Prime's illos for the D/C circus AU, and...I don't like it. I really don't like it. I've never disliked any of her stuff strongly, but her attempt at a more painterly style for these fanarts seem to have lost much of what I liked of her stuff (such strong shapes, such great lines), and it doesn't feel to me like she's mastered the principles. The painting looks awkward, not harmonious.

And when I looked at the first figure on her banner piece, the question went through my mind--"Why is that man dressed like a ballerina?"

I'm out of the fanart loop these days, so I don't know if there's be a progression that ended her up here, or what. But I am disappointed. She's usually such an easy win for me--she's where I first got into the groove of fanart Winchesters not looking like Jensen and Jared, since she put so much character in that it was still Dean and Sam.

Not getting that vibe here.

I hope the story is good, though.
