I only call Sam "Sammy" when it's when of those "OH SAMMY" moments on the show. Dean gets to use Sammy with impunity, though.
Just anecdata: On I Love Lucy, Lucy and Ethel were always calling Ricky and Fred "the boys". I don't think it's that uncommon. There's "a night out with the boys" (and "a night out with the girls," for that matter).
That said, I can't see anyone calling Bobby and Rufus the boys unless it was their moms, or their spouses.
That's a good point Amy. I wouldn't blink an eye at anyone in the rural community calling Bobby and Rufus the boys, as in the boys are coming over. My dad refers to my mom going out with her friends as the girls. It must be a common country thing.
I will always blink an eye at someone calling a black adult male boy, if they're not black themselves, and even then.
Speaking of boys and Sammy, Colin has a new movie coming out at Christmas. [link]
It looks like it could be Christmas Cottage cheese but...I'll watch it and pretend Sammy got a Zebra while he ran away that time.
I hate that he's growing up. Dammit, Sammy.
Guh. And I have new desktop wallpaper.
Amy, ita - I absolutely hate it when you have link wars. Never, ever do that again. Ever.
Guh.
There was comment along with BTS photos and commentary that the crew refers to J&J as the boys, so a guest on set could easily pick that up, I'd think. I'll bet their crew gets to call them anything they'd like. They like their crew.
Never, ever do that again. Ever.
Somehow I doubt you really mean this. I wonder why?

Can't you take a challenge, woman?
