I'm never going to ask for Gabriel to be in character in a S/G fic, because that way lies no S/G for me.
I did like what she did with Dean. It was more extreme than what we see of him in canon, but an acceptable diversion, considering the huge difference she made with John.
And I thought the brotherly love was massive and beautiful. I don't even mind that they compressed the age difference, which usually bothers me.
I have to agree with you on needing Gabriel not being Gabriel in order to handle S/G.
The age difference, wasn't it 15 and 17? A year short.
I guess that was in order to make S/G palatable, and to keep them in the same school. They're normally four school years apart, right?
Dean is almost four and a half years older than Sam, and Speight is 13 years older than Jared. Gabriel seemed to be done with school?
I figured Castiel, Dean, and Gabriel were about the same age, although I don't think it was dwelt upon.
Sam was mentioned offhand as 15, and I believe Dean was waiting to turn 18 to
ditch John and move out with Sam
and Gabriel didn't seem to go to school.
Jollysnidge has a couple of updates up at FF.net, woot!
You figure in AUs they kind of have to play with the angels' ages, what with them being hundreds of millions of years older than the Winchesters in canon.
Her Dean-as-janitor one sure surprised me!
Now I'm all aflutter in anticipation. I only read the prisoner/doctor one so far: hawt. Also, hope Dean's lying about
killing his whole family. Makes me sad.
Yeah, Matt, the Angel's would all have to be old and grey-haired to be in keeping with their canon selves maturity and experience. I think I've just gotten used to author's using Speight's actual age as a reference for AU!Gabriel.
