"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

But you're not asking someone to watch an entire season before you'll start on it.

Well, the thing that got me to read her meta in the first place, besides being a glutton for punishment, is that she wrote the entire criticism on their portrayal of gayness and Dean's reactions to it without even seeing one episode of the season. Maybe she's one of those people who went through college and wrote papers based on Cliff Notes and things she overheard in the cafeteria?

Thrive to spite them

that's the other thing - how can you base your criticism when it's all filtered through someone else's experiences.

It reminds me of this movie I saw, Metropolitan - and there's a character who doesn't read literature, he just reads literary criticism so then he doesn't have to read the books too.

On some of the boards I keep running across the term "soap angel" to refer to Castiel. From the context I can tell it's derogatory, but wtf? Where does this particular nickname come from?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Castile soap, if memory serves.

That's going right over my head.....oh, huh, just googled and there it is. Okay, thanks for the info. But really, if they want to insult a character, that's the best they can do?

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

Is that his son? That can't be his son! The baby can't be growing that quickly. It's not possible.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I could see doing a project where you read all the fic, watch all the vids, etc before watching the show and then compare the fannish text to the canon text, as something like an anthropological project. But, this is not that.

And she's working so very, very hard to twist the text to fit her belief system, and seeing as how she hasn't even SEEN the season I just was staring at the screen in amazement. (One of my favorites came from the preview clip where Dean said he hadn't read Lovecraft because he'd been out having sex with women. This person says the writers had them emphasize the "with women" part of the sentence - because normal people wouldn't talk like that, they'd just say they were out having sex. They wouldn't have to indicate the gender of their partner, you see.)

And then people were making comments as though she were a reasonable human being.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Ignoring the crazy people.

Watching vids and stumbled across this one by xTernallyDazzled: [link] from late 2010. Music "Teardrops" by Massive Attack. Great gen Sam and Dean.

I've seen posts of people that are flouncing off of season Seven. They aren't even going to see how things turn out? Boggle. And they aren't just "oh well, things didn't go the way I wanted so I'm really not interested anymore." They are "I am seething with rage and this is the only thing I can threaten at the moment that won't get me thrown in jail." It's scary.
