Zoe: Don't think it's a good spot, sir. She still has the advantage over us. Mal: Everyone always does. That's what makes us special.

Supernatural 2: Why is it our job to save everybody?

[NAFDA]. This is where we talk about the CW series Supernatural! Anything that's aired in the US on TV (including promos) is fair game. No spoilers though — if you post one by accident, an admin will delete it.

"I make mistakes, but I am on the side of Good," the Golux said, "by accident and happenchance.” – The 13 Clocks, James Thurber

Why can't including "FIC" at the start of a post be seen as a courtesy to fellow board members rather than as an ISSUE?

Because I was speaking for myself, and I have issues with it, based on the history of the thread and the board as a whole.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Can't we just agree to be more mindful of ongoing discussions on one side and skimming more on the other?

I thought that's actually what we were discussing. I'm not stamping my feet to ask that fanfic be discussed in the fanfic thread. But when I am asked what would make the Supernatural thread easier / happier / less why bother, I think I should be truthful. Knowing that a post is about fic means I can read, skip or skim without feeling like I might be missing something about the show.

Being mindful would mean what different than the status quo? I mean, status quo can continue but my feelings certainly won't change.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

What happens if someone forgets though, or wants to discuss both fic and show in the same post? Would other people be able to make them go back and add it in? Would separate posts be necessary?

It seems like a slippery slope to me, and honestly, starting down it would make me less comfortable here.

It'd be a hell of a courtesy. I'm not saying people have to, just that it'd feel like where we talk about the CW series Supernatural to me. I know we're all twitchy after the ugliness of Boxed Set and the creaton of this thread in the first place but it's currently feeling like show talk is secondary and if the people who love and want to talk about fic want to make it easier for show talk to thrive too, I am grateful.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

And I would be grateful if we wait and see what it's like now that we've had this discussion, and after hiatus ends and there is actually show to talk about, before we start asking people to label and categorize their posts.

eta: this sounds harsher than I would like, but I can't think of another way to state it, because I personally really don't want to start down this path.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I believe in waiting until the hiatus is over.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I hope I haven't linked to fic without telling what the pairing is, or more importantly art without a rating.

FIC: won't help me much. I don't parse in that short bursts. If it's a conversation about something that severely squicks me, like incest or RPF, I just skim after I've found enough context to work out what it was. There's no code to protect me from what I don't want to read.

And the stuff that's not a squick, that's just not a DNW, well, I don't care if it's there. When I see it, I just scroll past it to the next paragraph.

Are you suggesting making each paragraph about fic have a FIC header, and no more multipurpose posts? A post about meta or canon would be separate? Can ART go with FIC? Do people who don't want to read about one also not want to read the other? Same with VIDs?

Does general discussion of pairings, for instance, fall under a FIC tag if it never refers to a story anyone wrote? I mean, if I'm skeeved by Wincest, I'm skeeved by meta discussions of Wincest, and I'm not about to ask people to tag that. I'll just avoid it when it happens. half the fic shit is canon extrapolation. The sentence "Damn, that beatdown really Kripkes architeuthis without the porn"--too much fic? Derailing discussion of 4.17 or 4.18, wherever it happened?

Saying you found the perfect song to vid to and citing the lyrics? Bad? Saying hearing Pink Floyd made you sad? Meta? Distracting from the true purpose of the thread?

I see all that shit, songs, wincest, meta, as part of the thread culture. I don't see any part threatening the rest. And I just don't participate in what is not for me, and I don't hesitate to start talking about what is.

And if anyone wants to swing by and suggest we software tag our posts then I'll hand them the keys to the source code and they can go crazy.

This is kind of key to me, I have to admit. I guess I don't get how one person posting about x stops other people from posting about y. It's not like we have to take turns with the microphone or something.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I repeat, I don't want to discourage anybody from enjoying the show and this thread the way they're most comfortable. I withdraw my suggestion.
