Even if the reason they didn't have Dean pin the fantasy on Cassie is because of the poor reception to the actress, I'm willing to accept as canon the fact that they were young, they didn't work out, blah blah, and he was over it.
In my head, he was all bendy-weekend-yay! only until he met Ben, and *then* he started to romanticize it. Not just her (not even her, specifically, awesome as she seems) but the whole Life He Didn't Have.
Mind meld x-post with Amy.
And
that's
why I think it's creepy. He's fetishising her son, and otherwise not being unattracted to her.
I think my Dean/Lisa may be born of fatigue for running through female characters. I'm not sure it's rational from a story or plotting perspective, though I am fond of the character and the actress. So many of the alternative story lines I can imagine for extricating her from Dean's life I DO NOT WANT. I'd prefer they fond a graceful way to make her character work.
I'm sick of women being killed off, left, marginalized. I guess I want show to find a way to make her work, without sacrificing the Dean, Sam, Castiel & impala dynamic. Tall order I know.
ETA: I agree with the problems ita mentions, but I think it's possible to build on their shaky foundation and make it work.

Precisely. This is my issue and ewwwww all wrapped up together.

This is why I mourned for what they could have done with Bela's character. And possibly Ruby's, although that's trickier since she *was* a demon.
It's also hard to say, though. With their life, you can't have them conveniently being able to call on too many people, and they see Bobby a hell of a lot as it is. And I love Bobby! But if they had never introduced Bobby, I would have been happy for his character's role to have been filled by Ellen instead.
Cass, my apologies if my post seemed snippy - I hadn't seen your response when I posted.
Then they should have articulated it.
True, that. I'm more trying to make room in my own mind for there to be a basis to the relationship that isn't about Ben.
Like starting an argument about toilet paper and over vs. under . . .
I think, whether Lisa is The One or not, I think the messy fact remains is that he did romanticize her and Ben. And that that doesn't negate her as The One. But I don't think she needs to be The One, or that his romantization of her and Ben needs to be valid or solid. And I think, honestly, that it's better that it's messy and fucked up and a little not real, and that she's fucked up for letting him in her door and that they're both playing a whacked out version of house.

I Pooh Cased the last word here and went to a seriously fucked up naughty nurse place.
