That's like the apocalypse fic where the impala appparently ran with no gas.

Because books.

There are two apocalypse fics that sort of trump all other apocalypse fics for me, both of which are Wincesty, though. But the one is so well-researched and realistic about how systems would break down, what would go bad first, how Dean and Sam survive as the last two people on earth, is just fascinating to me.

I have a great love of well-done apocalypse fics, but a lot of them don't meet my criteria.

I know the one you mean Amy. It's amazing. Well written fic always trumps my wincest squick.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I am so jealous of you people that have no/can overcome your squick. It's like a brick bat to my cranium--if there's more than one scene to squint over, I canna do it. And I know there's a lot of good writing I'm missing out on, dammit.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Oh, I love that first one, Amy--the last two people on earth, yes, and how things don't all just stop at once.

One of my favorites has them using pieces of the Impala to build or repair motorcycles (use less gas, more maneuverable over broken roads and through barricades), clearing out ghosts and fighting roving bands of looters, leaving spray-painted pentacles (circled five-pointed star--without the circle it's a pentagram) as a sign to themselves and others the place has been "cleaned". As survivors scavenge behind them, their reputation for fighting evil grows, and the sign is mis-interpreted. They're called "the marshals". It's improbable in spots, but fun, old west style. No, no link. I've been looking for it again for a while. Read it before I routinely bookmarked stuff.

I feel the same way about D/C, ita. Although wincest is flinchy for me, too.

Because books.

It actively surprised me that Wincest didn't squick me. But Sam/Dean only. Get John involved (or god forbid Mary) and I go screaming for the hills. (Except for that one hooker!Dean story which I guess is the exception to the rule.)

One thing I like about The Last Outpost of All That Is is that, even if Wincest was a squick for me, this would convince me, emotionally and situationally, that it's sort of inevitable. They are the last two people on earth, for one thing.

Which is not an argument meant to persuade you, just an observation.

Have I mentioned my love of apocalyptic fic and dystopian worlds? I'd love links to the fics you're talking about Beverly and Amy, though I've read the one. Then again it might be time to read it again.

Yeah, see, I'd just not have sex.

Because books.

I have to see if I can find the other, ehab, and I sort of misrepresented -- it's sort of a lead-up, where Sam is supposed to end the world. And then ... other stuff happens. It's short and gorgeous and very sensual, nothing epic like Last Outpost.

Lemme see if I can find it, though. I think it's a fleshflutter story.
