I was full of blinky disbelief until the writer noted they'd never seen any SPN. Based on the simplified description they were given, I see it. Based on everything we've seen and heard, it's more than just slightly complicated. And I like John. A lot.

I haven't read the list, but I know seeing John mentioned as part of it surprised me.
I think in terms of love alone, he was a good father. He did love the boys, fiercely, but his love for them was always colored by his need to train them to protect themselves and to take up this mantle of vengeance and do-gooding. Which ... is not so good. Especially not when it actually involves putting them in danger, and a level of benign neglect that child services is going to raise an eyebrow at.
And yet, I know what drove him. So I love him ... but I don't know if I'd call him a *good* dad.

Jack's very different in Doctor Who. Still in character, but you can tell his crush is strong, because he presents a much subbier face. It's worth a try, if you have viewing time.
