Hey, is anyone here a slacker secret santa? Did you get your name from Nilly yet? I'm hoping she just didn't get around to it before the Sabbath and not that I lost or deleted the email somehow.

Oh, this is random, but last week I was walking home from work and it was the end of the lighting ceremony for the tree etc. at the stock market. So as I walked by, someone was finishing singing, and people were cheering, and then she just said thanks for coming, standing out in the rain, etc. I kind of thought I recognized her voice, but not enough to figure out who it was -- I figured it wasn't really anyone. But then the other day I was on the NYSE website looking for something else, and it was ARETHA FRANKLIN. Now I'm bummed out I missed her!!
We are running away , just over night. Up to wine country fo a couple of days.
Oh, wonderful, Beth. If you go to Sonoma County, I highly recommend Hook and Ladder winery, and the little complex of tasting rooms on the Russian River just south of Healdsburg--Sapphire Hill is one of them, and they have a fantastic zinfandel (if you like fruit-bomb zins, which not everyone does).
Good for you beth & Matt! Our favorite winery is Vincent Arroyo in Calistoga: [link]
They make fantastic reds, and name wines after their dogs. They're tiny, but when Jeff and I went there the first time and sat down to eat our PB&J lunch, the owner brought two full glasses of wine for us out of the library.
I now pay outrageous shipping costs to make sure I get my bottles of Bodega & JJ's blend.
Oh, wine . . . I miss you so.
I haven't been here much, so I haven't had the chance to say this, but CONGRATULATIONS SPARKY!!!!!
Oh damn, I forgot to sign up for Slacker Santa. If Nilly hasn't finished the list yet...?
Must go now and rescue a friend who has lost her keys.
Yeah, go email her right away cuz there may be time. And it is slackers after all.
Shit! I forgot too!
Uhoh. Puppies were being put into a CAGE when the link when down!
Jessica, hope your coworker can still use the recs! There are a million good places to eat near enough to the Inner Harbor & Hopkins (I'm guessing medical campus?) especially if they have a car. Some of my faves:
The Helmand (Afghani = loads of vegetarian options!)
The Brewers Art (Belgianesque, exceptional beer
Arcos (very good Mexican in Fells Point
Mehek (very good Indian in Fells Point
I haven't been here yet but the group's other restaurants are very good.
Cighiale (the enoteca is supposed to be very good and less expensive)
If you need any other options let me know! (now let's see if I got my formatting right.)
