For a bone marrow transplant, they basically have to kill your existing bone marrow, using chemotherapy and/or radiation. This necessarily risks infection, causes overall systemic weakness, and so forth. I imagine the sicker you are to start with the greater the risks.

This. My little brother died after a bone marrow transplant that was to cure his Fanconi anemia.

Since Lewis took the day off following his Day of Work from Hell, we went to Ruby Tuesday's for lunch. I had a giant salad and then was only able to finish half my burger (which they actually cooked medium-rare-- OMG!). Brought the rest home, now I have to hide it from my carnivorous daughter.
