Thrive to spite them

I'm making brownies!

From a mix, but still chocoatey carmely goodness.

I think someone mentioned a cranberry sauce, can I get a recipe?

I'm helping plan thanksgiving and so far the menu is : Baked Quail with potatoes, baked ham, stuffed acorn squash, some grean vegetable quite possibly roasted broccoli (I'm not sure I don't want to do green beans), rolls, ambrosia, waldorf salad. Quite possibly roasted, stuffed chicken. Sweet potato pie and chocolate pie.

We're trying , or at least I'm trying hard, to do something different than we've had since this is the first holdiay without my cousin and I want things to be ..well..where people aren't going "oh he really liked that".

But I'd like to have some kind of cranberry sauce that's more of a chutney or sauce type thing that can be served over the meat. If that makes sense.

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

We are going to a buffet for T-giving. Boo.

No leftovers.

But it IS cheaper.

Le sigh. I know we'll have a ham for Xmas, though.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

Mama Stamberg's cranberry relish goes great with meat. Should I post that link again?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

But I'd like to have some kind of cranberry sauce that's more of a chutney or sauce type thing that can be served over the meat. If that makes sense.

Perfect sense. Laga mentioned Mama Stamberg's relish, which has horseradish, raw onion, and sour cream -- definitely not your typical cranberry sauce! It's here, [link] , but half the fun is hearing Susan Stamberg recite it on NPR each year. I'm leaning toward this one [link] this year, but I'm still playing out some variations in my head. In any case, it sounds like you want something with a bit more sour and/or spice to it rather than just the traditional sweet.

Best of luck with the holiday -- your menu sounds wonderful, but of course it will be hard without your cousin. I'll be wishing you all the strength and wisdom to make it a good holiday for the living, without either leaving behind nor wallowing in the memory of the dead.

“Not dead yet!”

I get to make desserts for Thanksgiving this year. I like making desserts.

askye, I don't know how y'all are with the dried fruit, but I've made this chutney before and it's really good.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

At Whole Foods, they sell a sort of cranberry orange relish that's really good.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I'll likely post this in tech, but I think it's neat.

So my aunt lives in a senior's residence. They have a table for discarded things the owners don't want or if a sad passing has happened, relatives sometimes leave odds and ends there.

My cousin Steve said that his mom noted an old digital camera there and he picked it up and brought it to me because he couldn't figure out how to work it.

I took one look at it and said, "This is not a digital camera. It's a film camera." He pointed out to me something he said was a port, but I recognized as a flash port. I also decided I had seen one before. The case was leather and very old, and the camera was sleek aluminum.

We were going out and about so I took it with me to the stores, and then to lunch. after lunch I took it out and yes, there was no mistaking it as a tiny film camera. It had ASA speeds up to 400 and shutter speeds up to 1/1000. It also had a light meter, and distance markings from 8 inches to infinity.

I have subsequently ID'd it as a Minox model B, the preferred camera of spys and spy flicks for over 70 years.

I hope he lets me keep it....

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Does anyone have a good squash soup recipe?

I saw the Mama Stamberg's but my Aunt can't eat onions.. not allergic but they give her stomach problems. Plus I think it looks a little weird for most people in my family.

the Cranberry Ginger Chutney looks like it will work. So we are also having an onion or mostly onion free Thanksgiving.

My aunt developed this intolerance awhile back, she can't have any type of onion. Garlic is okay. And she likes onions, which makes it harder.

I would love to have Brussel Sprouts, I use Ina Garten's roasted recipe all the time and it's simple and they are tasty. However I think I'm the only one who likes them in my family.
