The biggest if about NYC in July is the temp/humidity issues that would be rough for D.C. at the same time.

My fave hotel in NYC that's reasonably priced is The Lucerne on the UWS, but it's not really conducive for a group, I don't think. Love the hood though.

ETA: Just checked and they've got double/double rooms for 199.00/night in July and I can vouch that it's a GORGEOUS hotel, two blocks from Central Park and just a few blocks more from Museum of Natural History.

Are we wedded to summer? Would there be any interest in an early fall F2F? Temps are certainly nicer then. And while teachers might have to ask for a day or two off, it wouldn't be uncomfortably close to the beginning of the year.

the Hotel Pennsylvania. It's a great location, the rooms my friends had were large and it was easy to hang out with one another.

It's also a pigsty, and has a horrible bed bug reputation.

Early fall would mean having to plan around the Jewish holidays as well as school stuff.

I'm torn about location-related choosing because I've only been to a limited number of F2Fs but am certain that it's the people, not the location, that make it so great. I could hang out in a CVS store in Lincoln, NE, with most of you, and have a better time than in the center of NYC with just about anyone. So while a trip to NYC would be great, it's the hanging with y'all that is what I want.

I'd LOVE to see NYC again (and am actually planning to get there before "Fela" ends), but the activities that I want to partake in there are going to be expensive. I'd want to see a show or two, and dine in a couple of pricey estasblishments, etc, and I don't know how realistic trying to do that with all of our various budgets is (and I don't want to do those things instead of spending time hanging with Buffistas.)

(I think I just talked myself into two separate trips to NYC!)

In summary, I am going to lurk in this thread until it's actual voting time, then I am going to show up wherever and whenever y'all say to.

Vortex, do you remember how much the hotel you stayed at in Brooklyn was? There are several smaller hotels that have opened in the Gowanus area in the last couple of years. And there are a couple places nearby that could be used as venues for prom.

Since I haven't been to the past couple-few F2Fs, I'm wondering if making sure the city has decent public transportation is still an issue? (I just remember it being that way from F2Fs past, since not everyone drives or will rent a car.)

I don't think anyone used the pubtrans in Madison, and we were kind of on the outskirts of town. Everyone (except me and Cashmere, 'cause our hotel was a couple of miles away) just walked.
