Oh bummer, that's what I get for not checking here for weeks and weeks, I missed Slanted Door today. It's one of my favorite restaurants.
I'm going to try to catch Sox at the Sausalito venue Sept. 10.
(eta: nope, that's when Bio 141 is.)
Tentative yes on a Sox brunch Sept. 13.
I'm signed up for three local theater companies in 15-16, and one of the plays is Jan. 17, which is MLK Jr. Birthday holiday weekend. Am I remembering correctly that there will be a memorial event in LA that weekend?
Booked my flight for New Orleans! Arrive Friday night and leave Tuesday!
I have never been to NO before and so have stuff on my list to do that no one else may be interested in (or not budgeted for) such as a cemetery tour and/or swamp tour. Looking forward to Sarah's birthday party!
[edited to delete unnecessary stuff.]
I don't know that I'd recommend a swamp tour this time of year. It will be awfully hot and humid.
Good to know! The heat/humidity was the main reason I waffled so long on booking. But my want to see everyone and NO won out over my hatred of severe heat. And actually it's not the heat itself. It's the heat while trying to look presentable! In Hawaii and Texas I just give in and go with no makeup and wear beachwear all day. But I can't see doing that in NO.
Honey, you can be glittered up to your eyeballs or dressed as down as you like. People don't really blink either way. There are a few fancy restaurants with dress codes, but it's such a tourist town that most places are pretty casual.
You know, I've never done a cemetery tour? I just work in them. You have to do a tour of St. Louis #1 now, you can't just go in anymore. Too much vandalism at Marie Laveau's tomb. Anyway, I might be interested in a cemetery tour, or the very least have a company to recommend. And I can point out the tombs I've helped restore!
From way back (I was searching for where peeps are staying):
So are there any set plans yet for the September 19th weekend in New Orleans? I have a plane ticket (yay!) and a place to stay (my parents!). There's a Saints game that weekend -- are the localistas planning to watch that?
I get to meet Dana! And I am totally down for watching the game! That leaves Monday for a cemetery tour.

SOC is who I was going to recommend. Lower chance of completely made up BS. St. Louis #1 is the oldest cemetery still in existence in the city, and has Marie Laveau and city founders and such in it. Also, as I said before, you can't go in unless you are with a tour group. Lafayette #1 is very close to my house, and if people are interested I can walk you through and show you some tombs I've worked on.
You have to do a tour of St. Louis #1
Which reminds me - do they have a gift shop, by chance? That sells packages of graveyard dirt?
I am up for a cemetery tour on Monday!
