How long can you leave meat in the refrigerator? I had some ground beef in the fridge for a week when I was at my mom's house. I came home and put it in the freezer. Is it okay to thaw and use, or should I throw it out? I also had some turkey sausage in the same boat. Thoughts?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
I don't know what's actually recommended, in terms of hygiene, but I would totally eat that food, Vortex. And I haven't died of food poisoning yet.
Nor have I. I just cooked some ground chicken on Saturday whose sell-by date was September 7.

This is always my response. IMO, it is pretty obvious when meat has gone bad.
cool. I thought it was fine, but I usually cook/eat within a few days, so I thought I'd check with the hivemind.
I looked it up on the "Food Storage Timetable" that I never actually look at for my own food, and it has a limit of 1-2 days for ground meat in the fridge. FWTW

Ha ha, oooops. I usually try to finish it up within a week of opening.
I'll just cook the shit out of it. It's not like I was planning on making rare burgers or anything.
"Cook the hell out of it" was going to be my advice, but then I had to go and cite a source.
